Not sure about the number of calories but under 900 is not much is it. I am doing Optifast too and am on Day 8 today. Okay up to today and suddenly feel really hungry most of the time - tried the Water etc but nothing last for long. Making a huge soupy type stew with tomatoes, eggplant cauliflower( and its stalks cos I've just about run out of vegies) to see if that will fill me up for the evening. Yes we can do this. Good luck.

Hi Ladies,

You are both doing great - I know cause I've been there:wacko:

800-900calories is just about right - just make sure that if you do 'lapse' that it is lean Protein - NO CARBS. If you are finding that the shakes don't fill you, try adding a little less Water (makes the Optisludge a bit thicker) then freeze for about 1/2 hour then smash it in the blender again. It makes the shake a lot thicker and I found it to be more filling that way. I also tended to snack on my vege's so that I was able to have something when I felt really hungry. Don't forget that you can also have diet jellies - I also made these a little thicker than they say on the packet.

There's not long to go now and I know you can both do it - you will be so pleased by the time you have surgery that the next 2 weeks of liquids will feel like Christmas has come again.

Hi there thinner-or-bust,

I too am on Optifast, I am on day 3. It has been very hard and I have felt like giving up, but luckily I haven't! I found today that if you mix the shake powder with Water and 3 or 4 ice cubes and crush it all with a stick mixer it turns it into a thickshake - quite yummy. Also if you have vanilla Optifast shakes you can add chocolate, strawberry or caramel DIET topping, making it even yummier lol.

I too am being banded on 14th January, only 10 days to go.

Keep in touch about how you are going.

Josh.

Yes it is perfectly normal to lose that amount of weight in 4 days. I am hoping to lose up to 10kg in the two weeks that I am on Optifast pre-op.

Well its day 9 for me today. When I started I was 147 kilos, I weighed myself today and was 142.8 which inspired me to keep going. I am being banded on Jan 16, i voluntarily have been doing Optifast since Dec 27th as I thought it would give me the edge........It was hard at first and I have had a few setbacks.

The hardest thing was the other night making spag bog for the family and had to control a desire to eat the lot. I gotthrough it though, which is a positive......

So all you gals and guys on Optifast, keep it up, we can do it

On Optifast you can also add any diet cordials to the shakes to change the flavour or the flavoured essences you get at the supermarket. In a vanilla shake try adding pineapple and coconut essences for a Pina Colada taste. Cherry essence added to the chocolate tastes similar to a Cherry Ripe and orange flavouring will give you a Jaffa shake. Helps to get through the days if you can have different flavours. If you have the chocolate dessert I added mint flavouring and froze it - Choc mint icecream (well, sort of anyway).

On Optifast and due to have banding on 14 Jan have failed terribly. I find it very hard to cook meals for hubby and kids and not have any. Was not aware that we could have anything other than Optifast. I love the idea of a choc mint optishake, mmm might make one now.

I have not opted to go with a nutrionist as money is tight. Maybe I should have Dr just gave my a book re lapbanding and I have just gone from there. Hopefully things will get easier now that I have found this site. Heaps of great info Thanks

Just make sure that the flavourings are "diet" or sugar free. Any of the diet icecream toppings work. I also love the coffee/chocolate blend (but can't stand the plain chocoate) and using strawberry flavouring (topping or 1 tspn of cake flavouring) in the vanilla one makes it bearable. Other tips include using crushed ice - the colder the better - and making it a little thicker by using less Water (going just under the cup marker instead of over). While the drink may not be as big, I found it really gross when all thinned out by too much water. Add the ice to your shaker first, then top up to just under the cup marker, then add the powder and flavouring and shake.< /p>

Well everone as hard as Optifast is and as much as I have complained about it - I just weighed myself at the doctors office and I have lost 8.9kg from being on Optifast for 6 days. I am so excited you can't wipe the smile from my face!

Its very very hard but totally worth it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
