Feeling full, stuffed, or not wanting to puke

Recommended Posts

Needed to know (probably should have asked BEFORE the surgery, but whatever)

When you can eat solids, do you feel stuffed, full, or do you never feel full (just not hungry)? I was told countless times from my Dr.s that I would feel full ("stuffed") on very little food. But the problem is, they don't have bands themselves, so how would they know? So I thought I would ask here.

Pretty much that's how you feel when you have restriction. I was full on a few mouth fulls in the first 5-6 weeks but now can eat a lot more. Waiting for my 2nd fill which should help fix that. When do you start on solids... a couple of weeks yet right??

Once you have good restriction (two or three fills) you feel full on small amounts of food. Really full. If you take another bite after you feel it usually comes back up, not good. Donna

I've only felt stuffed a couple of times since being banded and that was when I had no restriction and ate too much pizza. I got my 1st fill one week ago today and I feel satisfied after I eat but not stuffed. I was a serious over eater before being banded. I loved eating large quantities of food and I was afraid I would fail with this band but I am truly satisfied. I know this is all still new to me and I really hope I remain satisfied with the amount of food I am eating.

Immediately post-op, I felt stuffed from very little liquid, due to the swelling. Once that went away, I had months of just getting full a lot easier. Now that I have good restriction, I can get to the point very quickly where if I take JUST ONE MORE BITE.. I'm doomed. I get hiccups and start spitting up. It's no fun. And I tell myself, I'm stuffed, no more! But I see I have 2 spoons of food left, I gotta eat it, and I need to break that.

Laura - that is what I am looking forward to. I have had 3 fills (6cc in a 10cc band) and although I can not eat as much - I am never really full - I make myself stop eating to avoid a PB.

I have to admit that the more 'real' Protein I eat, at the first part of the meal, the more full I feel.

I got my 4th fill yesterday for a total of 7cc in my 10cc band. Wow, what a difference!! I can eat very little and feel full very quickly. Hang in there!! I was beginning to think that this worked for everyone else, but not me. That I was once again failing at another weight loss attempt. You hear people refer to this time as bandster hell, but I know, there is that part of you that is expecting failure again. DON"T!!!! This does work. You just have to wait until you have good restriction. yesterday I hated it, but today I LOVE MY BAND!!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
