Banded on 12/31/07, Should I be Here?

Recommended Posts

I know technically I should be in the December 2007 group, but my post banding expderience will be this month. So should I be in the January 2008 group or the December 2007 group or both? Does it matter?

Thanks,

Danny

So you have been dieting before you surgery, right? It looks like you made a lot of progress. How long have you been dieting?

Big-D,

My highest was 315lbs around May time. I started Atkins in August at 305lbs and I have lost a total of 57 pounds as of today. I got my surgery date at the end of July and I wasn't going to waste the 5 months I had til surgery. Atkins worked before for me (but gained it back of course) so I gave it another shot and knowing that I wasn't going to gain it back once I got surgery was all the motivation I needed to stick with it. The time flew and I'm 5 days away!

How are you feeling 1 week out?

My Big day is next Friday. I would think that being so close to January gives you dual citizenship.

One week out I'm kinda so-so. I'm kinda having mixed feelings about having done this. I don't think I thought about being restricted to 2 oz. post-op or even 6 to 8 oz. after a month.

Welcome to the site and congrats on your surgery! It does take a little getting used to , but when you see the weight falling off it is so worth it. Donna

Hang in Big-D! I can relate, I can give up alot but I am a big meat eater & have worried about it, but that's why I'm where I'm at.....I eat too much volume. Are you hungry because it's only two oz per doc's orders or is it that you know band is restricting you? I'm just curious. I agree with Donna, hang in there, remember that 14 lbs you've lost (IN 1 WEEK!) and you'll get your reward when you have to tighten your belt.:clap2: Now that sounds cool to me. Good luck Danny.

Carol Only 5 more days & I'll be joining you guys.

Donna, you're doing great! 50 lbs! Thanks for sharing your experience with us newbies. I've read some of your other posts and you have such a great positive attitude & very supportive to others. Thank you!

How has your 50 lbs changed your life so far? How many sizes is that? When I lose 50 lbs, I'll be my thinist in 14 or 15 years. I just want to feel better about myself and have some stamina/energy.

Thanks again.

Yesterday, I kinda went off the program and didn't worry too much about how much I was consuming. I just ate gingerly and if I felt full, I stopped. I didn't eat quickly and just took little sips. I had a Protein drink and some yogurt and Water all day. By evening, I had some potato Soup. I felt a lot better. I'm not trying to ruin my band or its placement, but I think this is what I have to do to survive. Right now, it is 9:41 AM. I've been up since 7:30 AM and I've been sipping on 12 oz. bottle of Gatorade. It wasn't full when I started and it still has some left. I feel good.

Thanks for your support.

Hey Big D-- we all want to lose a bunch of weight real fast, but it's my understanding that the first six weeks after surgery are for healing. If you lose weight, great, but your focus needs to be on eating and drinking things that will allow your band to "scar in" in and work for the long haul. Potato Soup ought to be cool if you grind up all the lumps. For me (starting tomorrow), that's going to mean three weeks of stuff I can drink through a straw, followed by three weeks of "mushies." Shoot, I may try to put a KC strip in my Magic Bullet and turn it into a milkshake (not really, but you get the picture). I'm going to try to eat healthy, but I'm not going to starve myself. There are lots of good Soups out there, and other things I can puree so variety shouldn't be a problem. I also ordered some unjury unflavored Protein to sprinkle in and I hope that helps. We'll see. I'm sure hoping it's better than the last 10 days!

Hang in there Bro--we're all in this together. The band will kick in once we get a few fills and good restriction.

Jim

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
