alicialynn00 0 Posted January 2, 2008 Alright guys and gals, got a question for ya....I am on mushies and I have been eating and drinking together, as I am not filled at all yet.....the question is, should I be doing this? I know that after I get adjusted, I will need to wait before and after meals to take in liquid. Does that matter now too, in the healing phase, before you have any liquid in the band? I know it would be good practice to go ahead and do it this way, but is it necessary? :help:
~Sheila~ 0 Posted January 2, 2008 Hi Alicia, I was told that you shouldnt eat and drink at the same time, even when unfilled, by my dr. I was told to wait 90 mins after eating, to drink something. Good luck to you, I cant wait till i get to the mushies. mmmmm
Twilight 2 Posted January 2, 2008 My nutrition guide says that when you go onto soft foods you are to stop drinking with your meals. My papers say 30 mins before and after. I have really tried to limit my drinking with meals since I was banded. Hard to do when you're on liquids Right now I'm good about 75% of the time. The rest I need something to wash it down. What I am thinking, is if I'm chewing well enough, there is enough spit in my mouth to wash it down for me....and if I'm not, that is when I'm needing to drink. I think this is another guideline that docs differ on. Have you asked your coordinator/surgeon's office? Steph
ebar822 0 Posted January 3, 2008 My surgeon's office says that when you begin the pureed/mushie stage that you should also stop drinking with your meals. My office says to stop 5 minutes before until 20 minutes after; however, I've seen a lot of other people say that they have to wait 45-60 minutes so I'm trying to do something in the middle. Really, it just helps to NOT wash it down so that you stay full longer. If you drink with the pureed food then it will liquify it and wash it down, making room for more food and more hunger. It also helps to get you into the habit of this lifelong thing we have to do.
