I'm just starting

Recommended Posts

Well I had my first visit with the Dr on December 27th. He said I was the perfect candidate for lapband. I had my bloodwork, attended one out of two support group meetings, the mandatory appts made. I have my GI workup this week and am waiting for cardiology and sleep study to call me. Hoping to get this done in March. My surgeon told me my insurance is golden. I have Anthem Blue Cross. I'm psyched and scared but sick of being fat.:help:

Hey Sharona!

Congrats on starting the process of changing your life! I was banded 9-20-07 and I have Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal. I had my surgery in less than a month after beginning my process. I read all the stories of those who had to do the supervised diet and had wait for months to get surgery, and I realize how fortunate I was to have such good insurance.

Good luck to you and let us know how it goes!

Thank you for your support. I am so excited. I realize how fortunate I am to have great insurance. My husband worked for the State and is now retired (early) so I have his insurance forever.

I do have a questions though, how did you handle other people's reactions? I'm hesitant to tell anyone that I'm getting this done because I get stupid questions like "did you try weightwatchers?" Come on how crazy is that. I've 57 years old have a masters degree and great self control...and they ask did I try a diet. YES...my whole life has been a diet!!! Do they honestly think people would get surgery done just for the fun of it?? If we were diabetics getting an insulin pump no one would bat an eye about it. I amin the healthcare field people should know better. Anyway.....thanks

sharon;)

I have a huge family and I told everyone. Everyone I know, knows that I have struggled to lose weight over and over and over again. For the most part, everyone was very supportive. My MIL and FIL weren't that supportive, but quite honestly, I don't care.

I quess it just depends on how comfortable you are discussing this with people. Everyone has their own reasons for telling, or not telling. Good luck to you in making the decision to tell or not.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
