Lower BMI'ers--2008!!!

I really don't see how those Patches could do anything to your band.

I started weight training about 4 years ago. It didn't pay off though, until I got my band.

I can't imagine why you would be so tight. Is this something new? I find if I eat something that I have trouble with, I am tight for a couple of days. I think I irritate something in there.

You know, I have been thinking about you today.

Have you ever been told that after a pb you are supposed to go on liquids for 24 hours? I have always been told that by my doctor, people on this board and a different board.

I think (just my opinion) that you should try at least 24 hours on liquids. If you're sliming and pbing frequently, your band and pouch probably need a rest.

For me, if that was the case, I would never be able to eat. Seriously, I slime badly over minimal things. Foods that I do great with one day, I can't even get one tiny bite down the next day and it isn't about my band being to tight. I have a fickle esophagus.

Warning **** TMI **** TMI Ahead******

Yesterday I had tiny piece of chicken for a snack and for 2 hours I had issues with it. I barfed 6-8 times and nothing came up but slime and a bit of discolored or should I say, chicken colored slime.

This type of thing, not necessarily this bad, happens at least 5 times a week. I've gone to liquids for 24 hours after an episode and it makes no difference when I go back to regular food or even soft foods again. It is hit or miss. Drives me nuts! :grouphug:

Do you think it's possible that you are too tight? I had those problems and I had a tiny bit taken out and now I haven't pbed or slimed in ages. It's great.

No, not too tight. I had a unfill cause I was too tight after the second fill. I can still consume too much food if I let myself. The issue is with the esophagus. They have meds to help with it, but I'm hoping time will help and learning to avoid certain trigger foods will help. Actually it is mostly learning to relax my mind before I eat. But that is difficult with a near two-year-old to have meals with! :smile2:

Oh that's right. You must be having esohageal (sp?) spasms. That is hard to deal with. I know someone else that has that. She takes the medicine or she can't eat at all.

I am just hitting up the low bmi'ers thread. I had my second fill the other day and I have been hanging out in the fills thread, I know I am such a LBT slut. This second fill has been a real eye opener for me. I understand all of the sliming and pb'ing and what causes it now. This is the first real restriction I have had since being banded. I can forget about eating anything solid for a while, can't even drink anything cold until about 3 in the afternoon. TIGHT< TIGHT< TIGHT!!! My friends in the fill thread have talked me through it and I am not too concerned at this point. I am stil getting about 800 calories in, mostly liquids though. Soooo, for everyone wondering if you will ever feel restriction ( I was that person) hang in there, you will in time. And once you feel really tight like this, going out to a big steak dinner suddenly doesn't sound to good anymore! It sounds painful to me! This fill has definately helped with my head hunger.:)

You sound over filled to me. I did the same thing and had to go back and have a unfill.(Same doc as you) If you are having issues with cold fluids (if you can feel it going through the band) you are probably over filled.

Be VERY careful. I actually didn't loose any weight during the 5 days I was over filled. My body retained Water cause I wasn't drinking enough and my metobolism slowed down. You know your own body better than anyone, so maybe this will work for you and things will loosen up.

Keep us posted.

I agree. Being overfilled is miserable. It's such a fine line between being too tight and being just right. It really amazed me that having such a small unfill could make all the difference in the world.

AudrickIan is going to keep us posted. It may loosen up on it's own. She said she will go in and have some taken out if it doesn't loosen on it's own.

For the longest time, I was really unhappy with my band. It seemed like I was either throwing up or I could eat way too much. It's wonderful to have perfect restriction now.

I was banded on November 17th.

I was 207 pounds, a BMI of 33 I think.

I am now 178 pounds my BMi is 27.9

I see some of the huge numbers some people are pulling, and I know it cannot happen for me. I have had my thyroid and gallbladder removed, and recognise this is a slower road, along with a lower BMI

But I am happy, I have dropped several clothes sizes, and it is such a thrill to try on my wardrobe, and throw out the sizes as I drop down.I can now wear knee high boots and skirts, and tighter button up shirts, so I am a happy person.

I have reached a good place with my fill,

I am excercising on the treadmill each night for 40 mins with an incline of 15 and a speed of 5 slow, and 8 running for 60 seconds every 5 mins.

4 nights a week I walk 5km around rugby fields whilst my son trains.

So far, so good.

weight loss is so slow right now, I still need to get better constriction, but I expected weight loss to slow as I get further on.

Where are all the low BMI'ers? I am hanging in here after my tight fill. I am about 4 weeks since fill #2 and finally, I can eat solid food somewhat comfortably. I have lost 10 lbs with this fill. I almost jumped in my car and drove down to TJ to get an unfill on several occasions. I struggled through the extreme tightness and finally I am loosening up. How is everyone else doing?

As of this morning I'm down 21 pounds total. Slow but it is coming off. Because of my esophagus issue I can't be too tight. Certain days I can't eat hardly anything solid. Especially during TOM.

Glad you are doing well.

That alot of you with a lower BMI, Like Myself (32) went to Mexico, is this because it was difficult or impossible to get an American Dr. to band you? I know my husband would have a heart attack if I went to Mexico, because about seven years ago I had some heart issues, now I am all clear but he worries... I don't mind paying Double because of that, but I am worried I won't be able to find a dr. to band me, and that even if I go to Mexico is my BMI to low to get fills in America?

Thanks For all Your help- You guys are wonderful!:frown:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
