67GTONUT 28 Posted January 1, 2008 Hello all, Well......... its a new year, and I still struggle with my weight. So, here I am, and I am going to look into the Lap-Band procedure. I am 5'10" and weigh about 260lbs When I use the BMI calculator.... about 37 I sleep with a CPAP machine Blood Pressure and Cholesteral are fine Sugars..... starting not to look good. Time to do something.... I will of course do some searching on here to get my feet wet and get some questions answered, but would appreciate any support I can get. My main question will be how to get this covered my insurance.... Thanks all Troy
jowjow13 0 Posted January 1, 2008 What insurance do you have? Have you looked up a doctor yet? My doctors office did all the insurance approval for me. They outlined the tests I needed to have done...I did them...they submitted...I was approved...
ThinDolphin3 3 Posted January 1, 2008 Welcome to LBT!!! Nice to meet you and I'm here to help in anyway I can. I have done all the research that I can do and found a doc and called my insurance company up and just asked them if the gastric bypass was covered and they said yes...so if that is covered under your insurance then the lapband will most likely be too. Good luck and again nice to meet you!! blessings

shortgal 5 Posted January 3, 2008 Lots of people post on the forum about their successes, so I'm not sure where you're reading or what you're concentrating on. Many people post while they are still in the first year of the process or some post because they have a problem they want answers/suugestions for. Many move on. They've lost their weight, they get on with their life. Pre op diets, surgery, post op diets, fills etc, no longer consume their days, so they lose interest. A few lapbanders that were banded a while ago remain on the site, to remind themselves to keep on track, or because they have found "friends" on the site, but I believe most move on with their life. A few post about their plastic surgery after succesful lapband weight loss. And a few, Ok, i have to be real honest here, are in my opinion, a little "off" you know crazy, again just my opinion. But this is a public forum and a cross section of all demographics will be found. You'll find all ages, all parts of the country etc. Ten people all with the same DR. could all have a different outcome. The person's mind set about the band, their ability to follow Dr's instructions etc will all vary. Educating yourself is no doubt important and this is just ONE place to get the education you need to decide if this process is right for you. Good Luck
