Itchy!!!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I could peel my skin off near my scars. I do fairly well during the day, but at night, they itch SO badly. Any suggestions? I'm not scratching while awake.:help::help::help::help::help::help::help:

I took some benedryl in the middle of the night last night and it helped. I've been reading a lot about scars and etc online. And talcum powder and Eucrycin (sp?) calming cream have been recommended, as well as Vitamin E oil. Thanks for the info...

OMG I totally had that after my surgery. I guess I was allergic to the tape they put over the incisions. You are stronger willed than me though cuz I scratched the heck outta mine. I had big red welts over every incision. The ONLY thing that helped me was Bandaide brand first aid gel. It is mentholated and that kept me from feeling the itch. Cortizone cream and benedriyl did nothing but this stuff really works. I recommend going out immediately and buying this stuff. It is in the first aid section and it is a clear gel. It might be called baindaide first aid gel or something but it looks like a tube of hair gel. I highly recommend it!!!!!

FANTASTIC! I'll go get some of that BandAid stuff!!!!

I wonder if I wasn't allergic to the steri-strips or the glue. I do have reactions to latex and some other synthetics (such as the elastic in underwear and socks, for CRYING out loud!) SO, who knows what's causing it. I know when I heal I do itch, but OMG, this is BEYOND that 'healing' itch. Of course, this is my first ever surgery and maybe I'm just over-reacting, and this is normal???? I emailed my doc's office and my surgeon called and asked if I had discharge, etc, which I don't because the incisions are fairly well healed (as far as no scabs, just skin). SO, I'm hoping it just eventually fades out. But I am going to try the bandaid stuff.

Update: It is bandaide anti-itch gel in a clear tube with a green lid. It is for bug bites and posion ivy but it is the best, it will work!! It was the only thing that made me not scratch.

Its the glue, not the steri strips. Same happened to me and before my follow up , i got the strips off. I couldnt handle it anymore. I have allergies anyway, so it was soooo bad. Tried hydrocortisone and benadryl. Didnt work. But take some internally and externally. Try ice too. I've been there and i know how bad that feels. My scars are worse because i gauged at them, so dont itch them too much.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
