one week after & I'm hungry!

Recommended Posts

Hi Sensey... and welcome to LBT!

Right now your body is focusing on healing instead of losing weight. I recommend the high protien shakes... you can even make your own.

My doctor's office didnt tell me anything about a 'protien' shake, so I had lots of McDonald shakes. A little more substance in this then tea or broth - and the protien ones keep you full - longer. (I like the slim-fast low suger/high protien)

Good luck!

What sort of diet protocol did your doc's office give you? One week out usually means liquids, either clear or full, depending on the doc. Anything solid at this point can cause damage to your fresh surgery.b Please check with your doctor's office to see what their normal routine is.

Also, you may read the patient handbook. Follow the link: http://www.inamed.com/products/obesity/us/patient/lapband/information.html#booklet

It is so important that you let your tummy heal before you start running foods through. Please follow your surgeon's post-op rules. I found low-sodium V-8 juice helpful.

My Doc's University published a whole manual on what to eat. Days 5 and 6 are full liquids, and starting weeks 2 and 3 is the "blended diet". That includes such things as tuna salad, cottage cheese, and applesauce. Anything pureed, or blended. So, that goes to show all docs are different in their post op diet protocol. It is sort of confusing too-since I trust the info on this site-and what my Doc recommends is a bit different.

The best thing to do is follow your own surgeon's rules -- diet, exercise, and all. He/she has a reason for those rules. We at LBT are not medical professionals. We are just ordinary people sharing our experiences, encouragement, and suggestions.

Like Joan has said, all docs are different. I would hate to think someone had serious problems because they were listening to us rather than their dr.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
