Couch to 5K Anyone want to start with me ?

Recommended Posts

I don't know how you guys run outside!!!!?!?!?!?!!?! I don't know what I was thinking....as a "treat" and boost of inspiration for reaching "onder-land"--I decided I would try to run the program at the park. I'm on week 6 day 2--(2 10 min. runs). I did the brisk warm-up and started running....eight minutes into it was thinking "If I can just get to the car....If I can just get to the car....." I thought my band was going to explode in my chest...I don't know why it was so difficult....I wasn't running fast....

When I reached the car, I thanked the Lord and went to the gym to do the program on the treadmill. I actually ran longer than the required amount, if you count the 8 min at the park.....WHEW!!!!!! more power to you outside runners!!!!

BigBaby - I agree that it is much more difficult outside. I ran week 8 again today outside. I know my pace is really slow compared to inside on the treadmill. My breathing was only labored a few times during the entire run where I needed to do my breathing rythm. I definitely have to focus on my breathing when I'm inside a whole lot more!!!

I feel it more in my knees after a run outside too. My knees have been achy all day, but they will be fine tomorrow.

You are doing soooooo great!!!!!

Allamess---your name cracks me up....

This is an exercise program that gradually teaches/allows you to run 5k at one time. It's a 9 week program that uses intervals of jogging and walking. The jogging is slowly increased each week. Here's the website if you'd like more info.

WOOO HOOOOOO! It looks like a lot of fun but I don't know if my fat ass can handle it! BUT guess what I am going to try it out. So, here is my email address so you can keep in touch with me and send me yours. My true dream is to be able to run a marathon someday.

I especially want to do the walk for breast cancer next year! I wanted to do it this year actually in a couple of weeks here in Houston but I didn't have enough time to get in shape in order to run which is what I want to do not walk. bleeg2000@hotmail.com keep in touch and I will be getting started this weekend. I am going to set up my page and the tracker and get to walking! Thanks for the idea.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
