Soup issues!!

Recommended Posts

Okay, this is aggravating. I think I have the eating slowly thing down. I made some Soup (it's broccoli soup, made in the magic bullet, and it's YUMMY!) I have 1/2 cup and was planning to eat the whole thing. Well ... I'm not even halfway through and it's cold! Same thing with cold drinks - it starts out cold, ends up room temp.

Just something to get used to, I guess.

Still loving eating mushy soup, even if it isn't hot.

(oh -- and just a FYI ... if you feel tempted to put gumbo in the food processor ... um, just don't. It sounded good at the time.)

This one's such an easy solution! Just get one of those coffee mug warmers. It's a little plug in device that keeps your cup warm that you can get at any drug store or on-line.

Here is a great cold Soup recipe that is yummy and very filling. I do use fat free sour cream instead of the real thing and it is just as good. I also leave out the garlic just because I don't like garlic. Enjoy

Jamaican Chilled Avocado Soup with Fresh Ginger and Lime Crema Recipe courtesy Emeril Lagasse, 2004Show: Emeril LiveEpisode: International Soups and Stews spacer.gifspacer.gif 1/4 cup butter

1 cup finely chopped onion

2 1/2 teaspoons fresh ginger, peeled and grated (about 1 ounce)

2 large ripe avocados, peeled and mashed

4 teaspoons fresh lime juice

1 1/2 cups chicken stock

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 green onion, finely chopped

1/2 cup half-and-half

Salt and freshly grated black pepper Lime Crema:

1/4 cup sour cream

2 teaspoons fresh lime juice

1/4 teaspoon minced garlic

1/4 teaspoon salt

Melt the butter in a saucepan and cook the onions for about 4 minutes, until softened. Add the ginger and continue to cook an additional 2 minutes. Add the avocado, lime juice, and chicken stock and whisk to combine. Simmer soup over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes. Add the green onion and transfer the soup to a blender and puree, in batches if necessary, until very smooth. Stir in the half-and-half and salt and pepper, to taste. Chill thoroughly before serving. To make the lime crema, stir together the sour cream, lime juice, garlic, and salt. When the soup has chilled, garnish each portion with a generous dollop of crema.

OHOOHOH! I'm going to have to try that!! I have been CRAVING guacamole and that sounds like it might calm the craving. OR, I'm just going to go to the mexican restaurant and get a bowl and a spoon!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
