Slipped Band?????????

Recommended Posts

Can you guys tell me what are the symptoms of a slipped band? I got an adjustment back in November, and I swear it seems to get tighter and tighter with each passing week. I have a difficult time even eating a yogurt whip for breakfast! Or even drinking anything first thing. As it is, I don't have Breakfast or anything to drink usually until after 10am...and drinking anything hot (ie tea) really makes no difference. But the biggest thing I am noticing is that I am starting to get the feelings of acid reflux. Not hard...not like it is actually heartburn, but sort of an uncomfortable feeling like I am about to get it. What do you all think?

It sounds like you may be just too tight. Have you talked to your doc about a small unfill? They say sometimes even a .2 change can make all the difference...

Paula - It sounds like you are just a tad too tight. I think one of the signs of a slipped band is no restriction. With you just starting to get reflux I would think you have a little too much restriction.

Also what size band do you have? I have heard with the larger bands they do that.

My band is the 4cc band. Well, I had my adjustment back in November....could it just keep getting tighter??? I am so confused. I left a message for the banding nurse, but they aren't the best are returning calls too quickly. Back to being the squeeky wheel.

Well I guess I would check with the doctor and see. I know I have heard some people say they got more restricted after a length of time, but just to be on the safe side have it checked. It's always better to be safe than sorry. Good Luck!

I have heard of people getting tighter over time. There is a woman here on this board it has happened too I believe her name is Sultana. She had a fill in August and got an unfill in November, it got tighter over time.

Some symptoms are the inability to keep anything down - even your own saliva. Some symptoms are nighttime reflux - waking up with Fluid backflowing into your esophagus and mouth. Basically, waking up vomiting. It's terrible and just gets worse.

Severe vomiting is definitely not a good sign at all. No one should ever just 'live' with reflux at night. All these things should be looked into by a doc.

In some instances, pouch dilation is considered slippage also, where the band actually slips too far down on the anatomy and a larger pouch bulges above the band. You may have no symptoms at all with this. You may only see it on a flouro checkup. Another good reason to keep a close eye on this thing pretty regularly.

Hi Paula!

Ive had 2 fills and both times I gained more restriction about 6 weeks later.

I agree with the others that you sound too tight. I encourage you to contact your surgeon and get his opinion on this.

Good luck!

Paula, I'm another one who experiences increased restriction weeks later. It is SO weird!! One theory I've heard about this is that the tissues in the stomach react to increased pressure by thinning out, sort of making room for the tightened band. Over the next weeks and months, the tissues revert/relax back to their former thickness, resulting in increased restriction. (I have no idea if there's any truth to that, but I think it sounds good.) ;)

A call to your doctor is in order, I agree. A tiny un-fill can make all the difference sometimes. Good luck!

Your band has probably not slipped yet but it will if you do not get the fill adjusted.

I am sitting here in the hotel in Tijuana. I had the same symptoms as you. I ignored them because I was losing weight.

I was so tight that I could not eat or drink anything until noon and then if I had anything other than a Protein Drink, I would bp all of it up. I became very dehydrated but then a few days would pass and I could drink and get rehydrated again and think everything was fine.

GET YOUR FILL TAKEN OUT

I ended up having to have the band removed Monday.

I was in very poor condition. Dehydrated, low potassium, etc.

They could not save it because my stomach was so enflamed.

I had been having reflux every night. I didn't eat after 6pm and it still wasn't great.

More advice: Do not eat ANYTHING solid or mushy. Go straight to fluids only until you get some fill taken out.

You don't want to be where I am right now.

I thought it wouldn't happen to me because I felt okay~ at least thats what I was telling myself and it was a lie.

My urine was so dark. I was really much worse off that I would have admitted to myself.

Email me if you'd like to.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
