Hello from Houston!

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone!!

I just started posting on LBT. I am pretty active on another forum, some of you might know me...some might not. Thought I would give this a try.

I was banded August 1...by Dr. Spivak in Houston. I have had NO problems so far, which I attribute to his great skill and experience. I feel lucky ( so far)

I am down 48 lbs..40 of that since surgery. I want to lose 110 more. I need to do better with exercise which will be a focus for me in 2008.

Hope to get to know some of you ...a lot of you... it is wonderful to have people that really understand what we go through on a day to day basis!

Hey Susan...

Welcome!! It is so great to have you on here. I just joined a few days ago as well. I got banded on the 27th of this month so this is a fun thing to do while I am healing. You have done great with your band. You must be so happy. Well, keep us posted on your progress. Talk to you soon

Hugs

Thanks Tanya! I am very happy. I have to admit...I kept thinking I had to test my band...kept thinking it would FORCE me to not eat. Maybe for some it does that, but not me. It does keep me satisfied for 4 or so hours if I eat Protein and veggies. Once I realized what it DOES do for me...and I let go of what I originally THOUGHT it would do....it was like a light went off. I am very happy with my decision!

I hope you will be too

Hi, I'm new too. I've not been banded, but am looking forward to it. I've learned alot just from the small time I've been in here! Currently, I am doing the 90 day diet/exercise program and am struggling with it! I feel like since I'm going to have the surgery, it's a free for all and I know that I need to break that mentality! I'm being honest about the exercise, I enjoy walking. I'm just not being completely honest about all of the food, I also know that will have to change pre-op. Anyone out there use Dr. Wilkenfeld? Pointers? I'm almost half way through the 90 day thing, insurance is Aetna-any pointers anybody out there? By the way, yall's pix look awesome! I can't wait to post my own on here. Looking forward to the journey!

Hey there. Another Texan here. Jennifer - I so know what you mean with the free for all feeling. I am at the end of a very loose 6 month supervised program and I have battled the same thing. My sister who was banded almost 3 years ago said she did the same thing. I feel like I am getting in a last hoo-rah before I make these necessary changes. With the weight, I also have crazy high cholesterol (hereditary, but I have not been helpfulith my eating habits either.)

hey, ya'll. I was banded on Nov. 16 2007 and have lost 33 lbs. I live in Ft. Bend county. Is anyone aware of whether or not there is a support group in the Sugar Land area?

Hi everyone, I was banded on June 29,2007 and I have lost from size 24 to 16. The scale is the worst thing you can worry about. It will crash your world, go by what size you can fit. How you look in a pair of jean will never lie to you. Good Luck everyone.

HotMusicMom,

There's also a Houston group of houston area bandsters on Yahoo. Have you checked there? I'm still new, but I saw on there that different groups meet in different parts of town.

I have subscribed to that one, too. They seem to meet around Alvin, in the Woodlands, or out on the Beltway, but so far, no luck with a group in the Sugar Land area, which is surprising.

Thanks for your help!

Hi!

i was banded in Feb, and again in May by Dr St Laurent.

I used to be able to get to the support group meetings hosted by JourneyLite, but lost track of them. I have another home in northern Maine and until November was flying back and forth.

I LOVE texas.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
