Waiting on UHC

Recommended Posts

I am in the approval process with UHC. I am worried that I will not get approved. My BMI is 37, but I have sleep apnea. I provided the 5 year documentation, had my nutrional and psychological evaluation. I got a letter the other day requesting a letter from PCP and the letter stated that I would be notified w/i one business day. Any similar experiences?

You are going to be approved I have UHC choice plus Texas I was approved in 7 days the key is making sure u don't leave any paperwork out,you are so lucky UHC is one of the easiest insurance companies to deal with, just as long as u have all your paperwork. I have no medical problem BMI was 42 I had no weight history info, no deits just a letter from Dr. stating that I should have this done.... GOOD LUCK with your approval.

I hope so, did you have to go through the six month diet plan or nutritional plan with your PCP. I think I may have to do this. I am a teacher so I would like to have the surgery in June.

I have UHC and was approved in 3 days. My primary doc wrote a letter of medical necessity, I obtained 5 years of progress notes showing my weight and then my surgeon's recommendation. That's all it took. So, I'm sure you'll have no problem. Keep us posted.

Destiny79, I picked the date because I am a teacher and we will start Spring Break on that Friday, so I will have a 10 day recovery period. Of course my scheduled trip to Vegas was cancelled, but this was so worth it. How is the weight loss going for you? Any problems? Or suggestions for me?

so far so good the key is going to be start exercising ASAP. I guess I am more motivated to exercise now because I know the weigh is not coming back . so far pre opt deit I lose 10lbs after surgery 12/7/07 I have lost a total of 30lbs as of this morning. I ride a exercise bike 30 min a day 6 days a week. I also have a bodybugg that helps me reach my goal of 2-3 lbs a week , good luck and again CONGRATS :whoo:l

OMG! That is wonderful! My husband and I went with another couple to Pappadeaux in Dallas yesterday and I was thinking about what life will be like eating out after the surgery. I did not drink with my meal, which was hard, and I tried cutting my meat into small chunks...and it felt funny. I can not wait to get on the weightloss bandwagon...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
