Question for Female Bandsters esp w/ PCOS...HELP!

Recommended Posts

I have PCOS, was diagnosed at age 22. Now 34. I have had all sort of times when periods lasted for long time Your cycle will even out. Call you dr. if you are going through more than one pad or tampon an hour. Insulin is produced when we eat carbs and now your probably not consuming many carbs, so your hormones are going crazy. You are probably not bleeding to death=)

I have 3 kids after being told that I would never conceive naturally, 1 planned daughter and 2 bonus boys. I have also experienced 2 cysts rupture. OUCH!

Good luck, call your dr. if your too worried.

Just an update here in case someone else searches for this topic. I am having my period naturally again and it has only been 5 weeks since the last one. Cool! Myself is balancing itself out hormonally and my libido has returned. Now I just have to work on getting the man to wear the love glove so we don't get a surprise!

Hi, I had my surgery on October 23 2007 and I also have PCOS. I haven't had any changes. I take Provera to bleed monthly and just continued like before. The only thing is my DR. took me off of the metformin. I would call your GYN.

I don't think I need to call my GYN- it's all evened itself out naturally. I do need to go in for a yearly though. My big problem is because of the high malpractice insurance in wyoming there's only 1 gyno to choose from and you have to be on the list months in advance. She may even not be taking new clients. Craziness!

FWIW...

I have PCOS. Periods come whenever they feel like it. Last couple of years, I have been passing lots of tissue (not just clots). (sorry if TMI). Doctor finally did some further tests and discovered that I had hyperplasia. That was after I had been bleeding for 2 months STRAIGHT and getting heavier by the day!

Had a D&C done on 12/10/07. At the point where I went in for surgery, I was going through a pad every 2 hours! Talk about thinking you are going to bleed to death!!!

Took a week after surgery to stop bleeding. Haven't had a period yet. Not PG either.

I am HOPING that if I can get approval for LB, it will help straighten my body out! This is so frustrating. I don't have kids either, but want them so badly.

To know that LB has helped you is encouraging for me though! TFS.

When I was at my Gyno's on Thursday I told him about getting banded in March. He's hoping that will sort out the PCOS problem. So do I.

Even the Nurse for the surgeon said they have so many women come thorugh with PCOS that the band sorts out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
