Question for Female Bandsters esp w/ PCOS...HELP!

Recommended Posts

I have been having my period for like 6 weeks. At first I was excited because I have PCOS and it came on it's own. It was very light and I didn't have to wear a pad or anything. BUT over the last 2 or 3 days it has gotten so heavy that I wonder if I'm bleeding to death or something. I have to change the tampon every 2 hours or so and it is getting gross. I can't have hormones for another 2 weeks because I just had surgery...I need some advice. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a chance it will go away on its own? Is this NORMAL for PCOS? HELP!!:help:

After major surgery there is increased risk of cysts growing very large, very rapidly. It could also be fibroids, or perhaps your hormones are just really out of whack right now....I would make an appointment with your gyno asap. Good luck and let me know what you find out!

Yeah girl I think you should atleast call the GYN!!! I also have PCOS and I didn't see my period for 4 months straight it came on light as well ... than got heavier REALLY heavy I went through a 20 box of tampons in 3 days!! When typically I can have one box of tampons for 2-3 periods but anyway it stayed for 2 1/2 weeks and went off! It scared me so bad cause this had never happened to me before so I called the GYN that morning scheduled a visit and she said this is normal depending on how many months you have missed it! So if you havent seen it in months than it's going to shed all of the build up and the specialist told me this as well. But I wish you luck sweetie and just try and lay down as much as possible to stop the heavy flow. Lemme know how things pan out!! HUGS AND KISSES!!!! APPLES!

Why does the risks of cysts growing go up after surgery? Yikes, knowing that makes me want to get to my gyn asap.

Anyalee,

I have PCOS and I got my period about a week after surgery , I remember thinking " GREAT just as i am feeling better this comes " I however am one who would rather NOT get my period back LOL I get REALLY bad Migraines with my periods so i would just as well not have one.

Anyway it was really heavy after surgery but I do not remember it being as heavy as you describe. I have had them that heavey before though. I would call your GYN just to let her know about it .

I think I might be exagerating a little bit. This is definitely a heavier period than I've ever had, but it's hard to remember a normal period since I haven't had one in about 10 years. I'll have to wait a couple more days to call the gyno anyway- because of the holidays. Cross your fingers that it will let up a little by then. I have to go back to work on the 7th so I really want it to be at least under control within a week.

Your docs office im sure has someone on call. I would call them anyway .

Do you have a family practice doc ? You might want to call them ? Its probably nothing but you want to make sure. You can have excessive bleeding and it be dangerous from a period . I would have it checked out just to make sure. At least have the doctor aware of it. The GYN Im SURE has someone on call

I find that whenever I start losing weight, my period is really heavy and lasts a couple weeks. My doctor told me it's because of hormones and fat cells. When I started losing weight after surgery, my period stayed around for 4 weeks. Some days were so heavy, a super-plus tampon would only last 20 minutes. Thank goodness it stopped on its own because I was about to start taking the pill to get it to stop.

Thanks Aza- It's good to hear that this happened to someone else! I know it is because of my hormones. The only thing I am afraid of is getting anemic, but since I am taking bariatric Vitamins with 100% Iron I think I'll be ok. I think I've gotten spoiled by my PCOS and having extremely light periods for SO long. I haven't had to by tampons or pads or anything for like two years before this. I had period but they were so light I didn't need protection for them.

Hi! Thanks for everyone who answered. I wanted to put an update in case someone else has this problem and is worried. My period is completely over now...so I guess I just had an unusually heavy period on my own that took it's normal course and is over now. HOLY HECK! That's really awesome actually...my first period on my own in 9 years! I'll just hope that it comes again next month...isn't it weird to wish for your period????

I have had a period every month since surgery in July . I could not have a period before with inducing them with provera . And i only did that 3 times a yr cause my doc said I had to . LOL I get horrible Migraines during my periods so i hate getting them . I wish i did not get them at all.

Glad things are ok for you now. I do have very heavy periods on occasion .

They do not seem to be as heavy now that they are " regular"

Sometimes when you lose weight quickly the extra estrogen is stored in your fat cells and when you lose that fat you bleed heavily.........

I was diagnosed with severe PCOS at age 22... was infertile.. It wasn't until I started eating a low carb diet that I started noticing a period reseting itself........ it eventually became like clockwork... every 28 days...... when I would quit eating the lc way my periods would get all whacky again......

Now at 38 they are regular but they are getting soooooooo weak...... like two days max.. with only half of ONE day being heavy at all!

Good Luck and know that most likely you are just resetting your cycle.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
