Ok liquids then mushies post op......but

Recommended Posts

...but

That will go straight thru right?

I understand the liquids directly post op for the sake of the healing period.

A month or so out though....and a Protein Drink goes straight thru the little pouch into the larger portion of the stomach, how is there a full feeling?

Susan

I am only about 2 weeks out, but it is not so much a full feeling for me- but that I never have a "hungry" feeling. I haven't felt the hungry feeling yet & I hope that stays away for a long time!

the liaqid/mushy stage is for healing. Since they stitch the band around your stomach, scar tissue has to build up to hold the band firmly in place. To avoid slipping. As you digest your stomach churns (moves) Since liquids need no churning and mushys very little it allows that layer of scar tissue to build up over the band.

The liquid/mushies stage is NOT for losing...though you most likely WILL loose mainly because it is a way of eating SO UNLIKE what you have known as a habit in the past. Yes, liquids will go through. Mushies a little less, but going through easily is the IDEA of this in the first place. Your band will not be effectively working for you until you get good restriction, so sit back and work through the process and don't agonize. You might not get to optimum for several months. You will never be what you were pre-band, but you need to take this slow and not expect overnight success. It will come.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
