To belch or not to belch...

Recommended Posts

SO, I have several friends who have been through this process and all of them have been exceptional belchers. I, however, have these little petite air releases occasionally. I wish I would have a big gut vibrating belch, occasinoally. Of course, I'm still on mushies as I'm only 2 weeks out from surgery. I'm just curious on whether anybody else has had belching issues...

I think that the construction of things will cease BIG belching. I belch little belches....a LOT...and not big gulpy belches but little bubbley ones (sorry if that's TMI). I don't think there is much room for a LOT of air, and it does tend to get uncomfortable, so it comes out little and often.

My big belches have turned into "hiccurps". Half hiccup, half burp. First the air gets burped out, then it gets hiccup'd right back in! I've had as many as a dozen of these in a row. Luckily, I get tickled easily and laughter seems to cure it.:)

Kyteachjules:

I belch like a champion! It probably has to do with the fact that I still chew gum. I think that belching is one of my "soft signals" that I've had enough food too.

Your weight loss is great so far - 48 pounds! Keep up the good work.

Well ok, I'm not strange then. I talked to another friend who had the band and she says that her belches come from intaking toooooo much air. SO, I guess I'm not so strange, after all! Thanks for the info!!

I was a big burper for (can do it on command - I know; real dainty for a lady huh). When I first was banded I couldn't burp at all. Now - I burp big as ever. I have lots of little burps with food moving around, going through etc.

When I get the hiccups it means I have just taken 1 bite too many. If I get more than a couple hiccups in a row, then I will lose my food :) I DREAD getting the hiccups so I try to remember to eat slow and look for my other signals.

SO THAT'S WHAT THE HICCUPS MEAN??? i've wondered why i will hiccup like 2 times when i've eaten too much.

....i burp like crazy. and i have gas problems on the other end of the cycle also. i really think that drinking diet flattened soda (doc says ok) is causing me terrible gas. i burp so much now that my son is always like "mom please..that is so gross", and i'm like "it's because of my surgery"..so now he thinks that i had surgery to burp...(and the other :0)

I thought hiccups were my 'soft stop' but in the past month or so, I realized hiccups means I just ate 1 bite too many.. And boy, when they last like wombat said, all the food comes up. I try to pay really good attention to my stopping signals, I HATE getting hiccups now. Turns into hiccup-puke-hiccup-puke. And makes the loud noise.

I burp a lot, and I forget it's not lady like now.. I don't cover my mouth. I remember last time we went to the casino I was playing a slot that was crowded around me.. and I was drinking coffee, had a huge belch and let it all out.. and everyone turned to look at me. hah hah oops. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
