Post -Op 2 weeks...major pain...help...

Recommended Posts

Hi gang, its me...today a new symptom of surgery. 2 weeks post op, pain and major discomfort in left side, under arm, chest, rib area when I take a deep breath. Mushies going down fine, cannot eat but about a cup at a time, liquids going down fine. No port soreness or swelling..a lot of gas...both ends (sorry). Any had any such situations? Dr. Lusco on call, said to watch for fever and it was probably soreness. Any comments I am interested. Thanks

Does your left shoulder hurt? Because i had really bad pain there which subsided and was due to gas. It does come back when i eat too much. But 2 weeks is long for gas pains. You should see someone asap if it feels like more than gas pains.

Hi,

I have the same pain on my left side under my ribs. I am just 3 weeks post op. It comes on randomly during the day and sometimes if I eat too much. I have called my doctor about it twice and they have told me both times not to worry. They said that they have to go through the abdomin and that that muscle runs from under the breast down tward the pelvis and can be sore for some time. I was told to avoid pushing, pulling and lifting over 5lbs for a couple more weeks and I should notice it getting better over time. I hope that it is nothing because it does worry me too. ;)

heating pad and gas-X...two of the greatest inventions in the world. My gas went on for a month. I ate gas-X regularly. It is agonizing, but it does eventually subside. Mine was under my left shoulderblade and running up the left side of my neck.

I was banded on 12/27. Today I had terrible abdominal pains. I thought something must really be wrong. I haven't had this much pain the whole time after surgery. I believe it must be gas. I am on the Gas-X and heating pad also. It seemed to help. Also, I had a weird fever that in 2 hours went up from 98.3 to 100.0 and then back down to 98.3. That worried me since I have a tendency to get cellulitis with MRSA. But I'm waiting until the morning to run to the emergency room. Hopefully it is just this gas thing.

I also had the same pain upon deep breathing. Keep breathing deeply and gently and it will eventually go away. It took about 5 days for it to stop altogether. I didn't think mine was gas (I had none at all), but thought it was my lungs and/or diaphragm adjusting to the surgery. Hope you feel better soon.

Just wanted to report that my pain under my left ribs has now gone away (knock on wood). It has been gone for a few days. I hope you are all doing well!

I had very similar pain under my left breast, in my rib area, accompanied by a gurgling, growling, burning pain at 2 weeks post-op. After a few days of the pain getting worse, I started running a fever that went over 103 degrees. I ended up in the hospital for 5 days. The doctor did an endoscopy and said my stomach was inflamed and irritated under the band and that is what was causing the pain and fever. They thought they might have to remove my band, I was so scared. They put me on nothing by mouth for 2 days, then Clear liquids for a few days to allow the stomach to heal before I was sent home. I am now 25 days post-op and feeling fantastic.

Thankfully I did not lose my band, however, I will warn everyone that there is a reason why we are on post-op diets and it is important to stick to them. I am not sure what caused it but it could be the fact that going to full liquids after 5 days may have caused my stomach to do more "work" and may have aggravated the healing process.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
