Strange pain

Recommended Posts

Alright, I have a weird pain. When I breathe really deeply I feel a pain in my left side - sort of shoots up toward my shoulder, too. I'm thinking this is just my lungs/diaphragm stretching back to normal. I was not given one of those breathing things in the hospital and forgot to do deep breathing after my surgery. Do you think I'm correct in this assumption? I tried breathing deeply all day yesterday and it does seem a little bit better. I was banded 11 days ago. Your thoughts?

I'm not for sure, but I think it's entirely possible. Today is the first day that I can really take a deep breath without feeling some pulling. I was banded 12/17.

Hey-I was on the breathing thing too due to my apnea and poor breathing test results during pre-op (70% v. min of 75% lung capacity).

It took me 3 weeks to take a really deep breath. I had the pain on the lower side too. I thought it was my incisions but who knows? I seem fine now though.:);)

These are gas pains from your surgery. They actually blow air into your abdomen to expand it to make room for surgery and after surgery try to get it all out. But somtimes don't get it all. I had the same thing and mine were so bad I had to call my doctor. He told me to walk as much as I could and it would eventually go away and it did!! Good luck!!!!!

Hi Merry Losers, Was banded 12/27 and just today starting to feel normal{?}. When I was in the "Holding Cell" {pre-op} I had a great desire to jump off the gurney and leave. It was like what am I doing? The surgery went fine, had the overnight stay in the hospital and came home still thinking, what have I done to myself! Stepped on the scales this a.m., I am down 3lb. Oh that's right, that's why I did this. My father and stepmother were at the hospital waiting with a friend of mine during my surgery. I guess my stepmother asked my friend "So how much did she weigh before she started all this." my friend told my stepmother " I'm really not sure, why would you ask?" and after I got to my room at the hospital my stepmother was telling me that the surgeon had said how much fat was all over and around my liver. I asked my surgeon the next day he said "Some fat". I really Feel the Love from that woman. Needless to say she is not one of my support circle. The nerve, the nerve. Enough about her, I am having a great deal of nausea, I have been drinking peppermint tea, but... how long should this last?.......

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
