Hi, Im 29 from south georgia and go Monday for my pre-op assessment. I am self pay since my insurance company would rather pay for heart surgery and obesity complications rather than aid me in becoming healthier. I just lost my mother a month ago to a heart attack and with my family history I have made the decision to use my inheritance money to start my journey to a healthier lifestyle. My surgeon is Dr. Bagnato in Albany, GA. I am absolutely terrified but I am missing out on so much in life because of my weight and I want to be around to marry my fiance and watch my 7 yr old daughter grow up. I'm anxious and excited all at the same time. My current weight is 375 so I am eager to see the lbs come off slowly but surely. Just thought I would introduce myself and get encouragement from so many of you that I see are doing wonderfully after having this procedure!

Good luck with your surgery. Have you considered going to Mexico to have the surgery there. They don't make you jump thru all the hoops they make you do here and it is a whole lot (I mean a lot) cheaper. And they are great and have a lot more experience.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
