I love tuna sushi. Tuna, rice, and seaweed. I'm allergic to most other types, but Tuna Sushi is my favorite food. My lap band will be installed in 2 days. It would appear that sushi is a good source of protien, but I wonder if the food is still considered "ok" since it has rice.

Thanks.

I am a sushi lover too. You wont be able to stuff that whole piece of sushi in your mouth. You'll have to cut it into 1/2s or 1/4s and chew slowly, etc... In fact, I just had sushi tonight for dinner! I ate 4 pieces.

When you are tightened, you may find it hard to tolerate rice. Some people say that rice gets stuck easily. This has happened to me too, and it hurts! I didn't chew well enough though. Chewing is key. You'll be able to experiment with it and find your tolerance.

In addition, eat the fish first, then the rice. You'll need lots of protien.

Up until I got good restriction (approx 5 months) I ate sushi regularly with no problems.. Since good restriction I have had it twice.. both times I had to eat it really slow (take bites and break it apart), and it went down a little painful.. but I still plan to eat it again, but I can only eat about 2 pieces before feeling full.. so don't order your own :)

I also love sushi. I've only had one fill so far, and don't have much restriction - but I have found sushi to go down well, as long as I eat it slowly and chew really well. I'm hoping it's still an option for me once I get good restriction.

I agree with her. When you have good restriction you may only be able to enjoy 2-3 pieces. Because sashimi is so tender I can eat an entire sashimi meal with some rice. Very high in Protein.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
