What Happened & What did I Miss..??

I tend to think of the vets as people who have been on the board a long time. I can think of one gal, in particular, who has only been banded a short time but is an old-timer here on the board. I consider her a vet even though I have been banded longer. I think she had insurance issues that prevented her from having her surgery for a long time.

I think others consider a vet someone who has been banded a year or two. I guess it is one of those situations where there is no right or wrong answer.......maybe some other folks can give us a better idea of the definition of a vet. Let's hear it !

Right on Green! This is not a vet only forum in any case, right? I consider myself a newbie but here I am anyway!

There is no forum on the board where newbies are not welcome.

Even the life at goal thread has newbies posting there. It's nice to go and see how people are doing after they reach their goal, or ask questions about how they got there.

Like Green said, the more the merrier.

I have only been an LBT member since May 2006. I honestly still have not read on all the forums this board has to offer. I love the info here but there is a lot to read through. :scared: I have my favorite forums like everyone else, I guess. RnR and food are two of my faves!

Other people have more of a life than I do. I spend hours on here because I don't have a lot going on.

I hope when I get down to where I want to be, I might actually attract some interest from the male species :scared:

I post a lot because I am retired and I can't eat and post at the same time. Posting is very slimming.

In my opinion the whole issue of vets and newbies, is a moot point. I know some of the newer bandsters, have benefit of things their Dr.'s have learned over the last 2 years to share with us who have been banded longer.

And we have experience to share with them.

It is not a one way street, there is room for all.

Much of the issue comes about in the way things are said---and everyone needs to seriously understand that saying something to someone face to face and trying to communicate that via typing, can sometimes come off as rude, or mean. It is hard to make a point without lots of !!!!! or capitalizing----and it is not always meant like we are yelling!

Myself----when things get nasty, and names start up---I feel like support is gone---so therefore so am I!

A good debate--I love, when ideas are exchanged, and when someone elses differing opinion makes me think my own stance through--I find that exhillerating! But the barrage of put downs, and defending others, rather than allowing them to do so themselves, feels like I am back in junior high and I'd rather find another thread to involove myself in at that point.

I don't allow food at my computer either----only my bottle of Water (or tea today)----so it keeps me from snacking too!!! Sold my business several years ago, and now have more time than ever before free!!!

I am not young....I have been banded for over a year, and here longer than that....I have lots of posts.....but I still don't think I am a vet----heck all my animals have died!

I doubt seriously that WasA would leave this board completely and not tell me. I just sent her a pm. A newbie asked me where to get Isopure. she always knows the cheapest place to get stuff. She may have gone to Mexico. She goes there a lot.

I saw on another thread that the last time she posted was yesterday. She is not gone.

Nope, I wouldn't leave without mentioning it to you, Denise.

I haven't been around much for two reasons. I got slammed with esophageal problems on Christmas morning and have not been feeling great and also, all the BS on the boards.

I'm SICK TO DEATH of the psychos that get banned from here and come back with new IDs and personas. I swear, if I write on OH that the sky is blue some idiot troll will come here whining that I wrote the sky is purple, green, and amber with lollipop bubbles around each hue. Now, I realize there are mentally ill folks and they are going to post. I'm just sick of them directing all their nutty behaviors my way.

I'm a person that needs to be around other WLS people. I need the atmosphere, the common ground, kicking my butt when I need it. So I've been finding people in real time to get to know who are banded or have a sleeve.

Just went to Mexico with someone last weekend. She's GREAT! I absolutely adore her. This board makes it easy to meet others in real time who are banded or getting banded.

I sure wish we could find a way to prevent the psychos from returning with new ID's. This one comes back as male, female, religious, agnostic, newbie, experienced, nurse, techie, non-technical old lady, etc. But you know what - we always figure her out because she can't hide her true nature.

And yeah I need to be around other WLS people too - it keeps me accountable.

And I was sure that you said the sky was made of pink cotton candy....:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
