Black Stool - Thought was virus help....

I have been ill for about three days....with what I thought was a virus.....lots of gas and belching....band hurts ....but not all the time.....this morning my stool was blackish....I read on the internet that black stool could be caused by blood from the upper GI....does anyone know about this or have heard of this problem...

There are many things that can cause a black stool and yes one of them is internal bleeding. Different foods and drinks, meds, Iron supplements especially but considering you are banded I would definately get to your dr and get it checked out. Also are the stools tarry?

What do you mean by "tarry"...I haven't eaten very much in the last three days....I ate too much chocolate at Christmas....

What I mean by tarry is are your stools shiny and sticky as well?

Hijabigirl is right. The usual culprits are blood in the stool or Iron supplements. It never hurts to touch base with your doc. There is a very simple test to check for blood in the stool.
