Hi from Atlanta! Getting banded on Jan. 10th!

Recommended Posts

:whoo:Hi Jan. bandsters! I have been on the Lap Band forums for a while, but just found all you January gals (and guys!). I am 39 years old and live in Atlanta. Dr. Steinberg is performing my surgery at Dekalb medical Center. My husband is a physician who is about 90% on board with the surgery. I guess as a physician, he is not loving the idea of any "optional abdominal surgery", but is completely supportive of my decision to get the band. I have 2 kids..14 and 12, and I have not yet told them about the surgery. My daughter is 14, and has struggled with binge eating and a bad body image in the past. She is finally on a path of healthy eating and exercise, and I don't want to distract her with my weight loss issues. Once I am on my feet again, we can exercise and eat healthy together. I will probably tell the kids I am having some minor abdominal surgery, or something.

My doctor only requires a 48 hour pre-op diet. I already have everything I need for the pre-op diet, and the 3 week liquid phase diet (homemade chicken broth in the freezer, sugar-free Jello, Protein powders, a new water bottle for sipping, my Magic Bullet). I am ready! I am looking forward to sharing this exciting journey with all of you....

Okay everyone...I am on the Jan. Surgery Date thread. Very cool to keep track of everyone's surgery date and progress.

The 10th is going to be a great day for bandiing - there are about 6 of us for that date now!! I am doing a two week pre-op diet which is okay though sometimes it is frustrating watching the rest of the family eating real food!!

I have been freezing small portions of food over the last few days for blending and including in Soups etc for after the op. If it cools down over the next few days I may make some Soup but at the moment it is just too hot here (40 deg celsius or over 100F) to do anythihg but the most essential cooking. All the best for your journey.

Hi Hilary....Where are you located that it is over 100 degrees outside. it is cold and rainy here in Atlanta. Is your pre-op diet required by your doc? Mine only requires a 48 hour, pre-op, clear liquid diet. That won't be fun, because there is no Protein to keep you full for 2 days! Does your doctor require an overnight stay in the hospital after the surgery? Mine does. Keep in touch...I am excited to meet another Jan. 10 bandster!

Hi Gwen, I am in Adelaide, South Australia. We have had a heatwave since just after Christmas and it looks like it will go on till at least next weekend. Yuk. Makes me feel very lazy, but fortunately I have a wonderful friend I walk with who is still insisting we walk tomorrow if it is not too hot at 7am. She has been really supportive of me through this, as has my husband and several other friends that I have told. Haven't told everyone yet as not sure about the need to.

By the way I spent a week in Atlanta in January of 1990 at my husband's cousin's house when they were working over there for a year. Loved it. That sounds like a long time ago now but it seems like just yesterday.:)

I will be staying in two nights following the op which apparently is standard according to my doc. Yes let's keep in touch and happy new year to you and yours.

Hey Hilary..No problem with the name!

You are lucky to have a supportive friend who will walk with you. Walking is going to be a great post-op exercise, especially in the first few weeks.

It is so funny to me that you are having a heat wave now! We had a terrible one this summer (August for us). About 3 weeks of 100 degree (40 degree celsius) and higher weather. Also, really high humidity.

In the meantime..have a great week!

Gwenn

Welcome citygirl! I'm also Jan 10th and very excited. I made my list yesterday of items to pack for hospital & I've filled my pain med, liquid tylenol, chewable vitamins and prepared foods. My doc only has a two day preop diet, three days liquids postop and soft Proteins for 4 weeks. Best wishes to everyone! Keep in touch!

Its been in the upper 30's, low 40's in NYC, a heatwave, so to speak for this time of year, and drinking the cold shakes doesn't warm you up much and can't get enough Protein from the warm broth.

Ladies from down under, kinda see the irony.......:rolleyes :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
