Exercises / movements to relieve GAS pain?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I was hoping somebody could tell me what exercises help to alleviate the gas pains... I am one day post-op.

I walk around, raise my arms up, and pat my chest (also had my husband pat my back).

Anything else that can help?

Thanks!!!

I had some Gas=X strips that I took last night. They helped me to get some sleep.

Send Hubby out for some. Walking, they say seems to be the best.

I'm in incredible gas pain too!

I've heard a heating pad can help. I had surgery yesterday. Gas pain wasn't too bad (except while still in recovery) but I've been walking around the house a lot. I feel better when I do that. This morning I paced around the house for 45 minute! I think the pain medication is making me hyper instead of drowsy!. Don't forget gas ex. It doesn't make my gas go away, but it helps it come out.

Also, as mentioned above, I had a heating pad right now on my stomach where the incisions are. I'm not sure if the pain Im experiencing is gas pain, or incision pain, although it tends to get better when I walk.

Hope this helps!

Only time helped me. I felt better on the fifth day after surgery. First four days were rough, felt like and elephant sitting on my chest and the pain went to my left shoulder.

It's was the same as I imagine a heart attack might feel like.

Good Luck to you all.

Walking & a Heating Pad were the trick for me. GasX strips were so/so for me, my DH relied on Hot Pepermint Tea to settle things down and it worked well for him.

Hope your feeling well soon...!!

Thanks for all of the ideas! I have peppermint tea so hopefully it will help. Deep breathing feels good as well (never thought of that!). I have been laying on a heating pad but I'll put it on top of me now to see if that works.

Thanks all again!

Hi Roberta, follow all above advice. it really works. breathing out works wonders. feel your lungs with air and blow out for as long as you can. coughing and turning side to side also helps

I have a question for evrybody, nobody talks much about the risks of blood clots, I have to walk around for 15 mins. x 3 daily plus ankle rotations, toe pumps and tracing out the alphabet x3 daily. nobody else has to do this. just curious

I know that this is going to sound weird but trust me IT WORKS. Get down on your hands and knees and put your butt up in the air. The gas will pass and you will fee SO much better. I am still waiting for my band date but years ago after I delevered my twins I had terrible gas pains....they were almost worse than the contractions. The butt in the air was the only thing that worked.

The heating pad on the front of my chest worked, as well as the deep breathing.

I'm going to try the doggy yoga pose that ladybug suggested.

Thanks all!!!!

HI bert, I had my surgery on the 27th. I have never been one that had indigestion or any kind of problem so when I was having pain (it seemed like in my esophagus), I thought it must be the gas. I have been taking gax-x the pills but changed to the strips. It seems to be subsiding. Also, when I eat something that is not so sweet tasting like popsicles, pudding, etc. it seems to be better. Like strained cream of chicken Soup. or really watery grits. (2nd day after only). You know something kind of bland. 1st day had to be liquids.

Good luck to you, I am on day three now and feeling lots better as far as the pain in my abdomen goes. When the gas is all gone, I will be good!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
