one month out, first fill, can still eat!

Recommended Posts

Hi! I am one month post op and I just had my first fill on Christmas Eve actually... two days after that I was graduated to "soft" foods. I am so happy eating anything after that awful liquid diet!! Howeverrrr... I find myself feeling like I haven't had any type of surgery! I can still eat more than I should! I am suppose to stick to 2 oz meals and I have been pretty faithful to that until today.... I tested the waters a little. eeek... I found myself able to eat WAY beyond 2 oz! I fully intend to stick to the 2 oz... but knowing that I can physically consume more than that I might push it... isn't that why I had this surgery in the first place?? :)

so my questions are...

-is this normal? am I just not restricted because I've only had one fill??

-am I just able to eat more because I'm eating just mushies and that digest quicker???

-did my doctor just forget to put the band on my tummy??? haha just kidding... I would definetly demand a refund if that were the case

Thanks for the support!

Kayla

Kayla, it took me 5 fills and about 6 months to reach peak restriction. Chances are it will take you a minimum of 3-5 fills to get there. Try and limit yourself using willpower and go in for another fill as soon as you can. Also, are you on solids yet? It sound like you are on mushies. When you get to the solid phase you will probably eat a little less. Especially if you eat your solid Protein first . It should keep you from getting as hungry. Hope this helps. Julie

Don't try to measure your restriction during the liquid or mushy stage. You must wait until you are on solids to measure your restriction. I could eat 4 cups of refried Beans right now, but could only eat 3-4 oz of tuna or chicken. Hold out, and don't stress about it. You are doing just fine!

I'm finding the same thing. I was banded 12/3 and started eating regular food last weekend although I'm still kinda eating mushie type foods. But, I have certainly pushed it, even eating potato chips and crackers (old habits die hard) and certainly eating way too much! My first fill isn't until 1/16 so I'm working now to cut back what I'm eating so I don't have a shock then. I think what you're experiencing is normal, sure seems to be for me.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
