Can someone please offer some suggestions? I already got the pineapple juice and don't seem to be able to hold it down. It goes down, but I keep on throwing it up after a few burps.

What should I do? I haven't been this kind of stuck before. It's not horribly painful like first time I was stuck. Just keep on burping and then throwing up a little - including my spit/slime.

Suggestions.......

Thanks.

Sue

This has never happened to me but I noticed that nobody has answered you yet. I hope you are feeling better. Have you tried taking a deep breath and holding it? That sometimes helps me if I feel stuck. Good luck!

Sue,

I know how frustrating it is to be pbing. Sometimes it takes awhile to get something unstuck, but sometimes I think the stoma gets irritated, and starts to swell, and then nothing seems to help. Try icy pineapple juice. Don't glug, just sip. If that comes back up, try some forceful burping (as in trying to burp). If you're not getting any air coming from the lower stomach (gives you a nice burp), try walking around and stretching, like trying to reach your toes. Expect sliming, but try not to "throw up." Whatever comes out from bending over is okay, but don't try to force it. Finally, try just relaxing, take a bath, and try sipping something icy. If the icy sipping stays down, give it a rest for 24 hours and only drink liquids, no mushies and definitely no solids.

You can also try an antihistimine spray;the antihistimine will make mucus membranes dry out some, slowing the sliming.

If you can't keep anything down after 24 hours, time for a call to the surgeon's office.:cry

Thank you KarenG and Sherrirbgr:

I continued to look at the lapband site, took a hot shower to relax all of the muscles. Bent and reached for my toes and dislodged something. Lousy night, finally went to sleep around 2 a.m. Feel lots better this morning and am able to keep coffee down. I'll stick to all liquids today.

I'm a scale maniac. I weighed myself this morning and I was down 3 pounds from yesterday, I know it's going to come right back when I'm not dehydrated though.

I feel like I'm starving today. Yesterday I had cream of wheat for Breakfast, Protein bar for lunch, and two bites of pork chop before I got sick at supper.

Thanks again for responding to my distress posting.

If you have any Protein drinks, drink those today to keep the hunger pains away.

Pork chops is one of the meats that I gave up for the band. No matter what I do, how small the bite is, it seems that it gets stuck. chicken breast, unless it is flattened (beat flat with a mallet), is a no-no, and I can only dream of steak. Anything with fibrous texture, I just can't seem to chew enough to make it go down. Learning to make sauces to go with your meat will help lube your stoma, making things that might get stuck a lot easier to eat.

I promise that liquids will do the trick today. It will give your stoma a chance to rest and the swelling to go down.

Sherri

Aldolfs meat tenderizer, Papaya extract which is in Digestive Enzymes found at health food stores...

try these two 'fixers' for food that is stuck... the meat tenderizer can be purchased at any grocery store..

These are a couple of things I've heard work

Can I ask why everyone keeps suggesting pineapple juice? It seems like that would be a bit acidy... but I am still new at this,s o I thoguht I would ask.

It contains ENZYMES that break down meat, that is why it is often used in MARINADES for beef, pork, chicken etc.

I've had 3 prolonged PBs but all of mine hurt, so I can't give advice on the "no pain, just burps" part of it. I've tried all the remedies I've heard of and none have ever worked for me. The only thing that maybe works is if I hunch over my island. Could be coincidence, but more than once when I've done this, within a minute I've had relief. Doesn't work all the time though.

If you haven't yet, try taking some deep breaths and holding them, then exhaling slowly. This may do nothing, but it used to help me earlier on (although I get to a point where it hurts too much to take a deep breath, let alone hold it.) Also, sorry if this is TMI, but if you have the urge to go poop, give in to it. Sometimes this trikes me when I'm stuck, and going along with it really does seem to help. I have no idea why this is. (I used to call these "PBMs")

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
