Has your significant other lost weight with you?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if your dh, significant other, or anyone you spend a lot of time with has lost weight due to your surgery. My dh has gained about 35 pounds since he has been with me and we've been talking about how he should lose weight due to having to share his meals with me. Just wondering if this theory usually comes true.

I was banded the same day and my husband....Right now it's a healthy competition to see who gets to goal first. So yes to your question., Right now we are in total experiment mode of "healthy cooking" & working out constantly. Not sure I would be doing as good or be motivated at all to go to the gym if not he and I on the same page.

My sweetie went on a diet at the same time I got banded. (We don't live together.) And she lost 25-ish pounds to go from 175 to about 150. That was back in the spring and summer. She's now struggling because ten has creeped back on and she's fighting to get them off.

It's interesting, because you'd think relating to her struggle for 10 pounds would be difficult for me, but I get it. She get's my struggle too.

But we're women, if you haven't figured that out yet, and relating about body issues is easier than between a man and a woman, I think.

It's only been two weeks for us, but my husband has totally changed his diet. He became a vegan when I got the surgery & he has already lost 10 pounds. I think he's competing with me to get to goal, too! Dang it!

No, he really does not need to lose weight, but neither does he need to gain, and we found that he was finishing up what I didn't eat, and he was putting it on. Now we just box it up, or leave it if we go out!!

He is more concious of his weight now, he is awed by the fact that he is now bigger than I am, and that not only can he wrap his arms all the way around me, but he can grab his opposite elbow! I think it spurs him on to stay in shape himself, plus now we DO things together, because my weight no longer holds me back from joining in.

My husband lost 50 pounds after my surgery, because my eating habits changed, he went from 230 to 180 (he's 6 ft tall), But it is not becasue I don't cook, it is because no more drive thrus and not eating out of habit. Good luck on your journey!

My hubby has lost some weight with me. About 5-10 lbs. He is still within his normal weight range for his height.

Mine hasn't lost a pound. He needs to lose at least 30 and I don't really care if he does or not other than for his health. He eats his meals and samples what's left of mine which is getting him in trouble  I insist now that I'm taking my leftovers for another meal and that's starting to help.

No, mine hasn't lost any. I'm trying to encourage him to. We were both very thin when we met, I think he only weighed 145 lbs. Over the years his weight has risen up to 240 lbs. He probably needs to lose about 60-70lbs. He looked really healthy when he weighed about 175. I'm hoping he will try to lose some weight. It's all about being healthy for me. Hopefully he will jump on board soon.

Ha! My SO is one of those people that can eat 5 pounds of fat straight out of the fryer and not gain a pound. He hasn't lost weight or gained weight (he's 28, one day I'm sure it will catch up with him) but we have saved money because I used to eat like him, so instead of 2 portions, together we eat 1+ 1/2. So when we go out to eat or stay home, overall there is less food consumed.

No, he's gained a little actually - lol.

I feed him all the extra food to get rid of it.

He's 5'10" about 185 and when we met he was 170. He thinks about 3-5lbs of that gain is since I was banded. If he cut out beer or switched to lite, I think he could drop 5lbs easy. I'm not taking responsibility for his new little tummy - lol!

W/He is eating a lot healthier now though! <O:p</O:p<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

My man weighed about 165 when we got together, he's 5'11" (my goal weight by the weigh (pun intended)). He has risen to just below 200. Some of it was added to his legs and butt which was needed. Most has went to his belly though. Its funny he was so self concious about his weight when I started going out with him, he has gotten over that though and its all my fault. Maybe we'll get back on track. Also I'm self pay so I'm going to have to train him to tell me Stop That!! if I'm not always able to on my own.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
