Question about pre-made meals?

Recommended Posts

South Beach Diet meals are really great. My nutitionist recommended them and they taste really good, plus they all have around 25 grams of Protein.< /p>

The only thing you need to watch on pre-made dinners is the sodium content. They usually have lots of "fillers" in them too, like modified sugars and food starch (which turns to sugar if not used).

Always look at the first 5 ingredients. If they aren't real food, then pass on them.

It's often easier to cook a real meal, then get those plastic freezer containers and make your own pre-made dinners.

Less salt, less money and better quality food.

I'm still recovering from surgery, but I will have frozen dinner or 2 in my freezer in case I need one.

I do the occasional South Beach meal when I am out of time to cook for myself. Steamed veggies in the pouches are a great quick food too, just avoid the ones covered in cheese and sauces.< /p>

Gortons grilled fillets are quick and easy and have 100 calories, 17g of Protein and 1g of carbs

Has anyone tried the frozen entree by Angelo's that is Eggplant and chicken Parmesan? It is so good! I eat 1/2 for lunch one day and the other 1/2 the next day. I usually have a yogurt with it too. My doctor said the Lean Cuisine's are okay, but its hard finding some without Pasta or rice.

When eating frozen meals... how much of one can you eat? I know for the eaters we used to be, they didn't yield much satisfaction... however, I assume that eating one now... I'd be satisfied by eating 1/2 - 3/4's of one...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
