Losing on pre-op diet... so excited!

Recommended Posts

I just weighed myself for the first time since starting my pre-op diet. Now mind you, about 3 weeks ago I started making changes in my diet... biggest of which was cutting out all sweets. No more pints of Ben & Jerry's everynight, that one was HARD, ice cream is my crack! :) I was very hopeful I would see a change and I DID!

I lost 5 lbs! :) :clap2: Woo hoo!

I know it isn't much, but I am thrilled to see a difference already on the scale. For the past few days I have been doing low carb, high Protein while subbing Breakfast with a Protein Drink in the AM.

I let myself enjoy Christmas and probably ate one too many Peanut Butter Cookies... but I didn't want to stress myself over it too much. I was a tad worried that would erase any good I did over the past few weeks, I am lucky it didn't seem to! :(

Now if I could just get my butt moving on exercise. :D

That's AMAZING LA! Congrtulations! You earned each and every one of those pounds!!!! When you've made an effort to get healthier and it reflects on the scale, it's a great feeling! You feel on top of the world, and you should! Good for you for sticking with your pre-op diet.

Keep reminding yourself that by continuing to do this you are shrinking your liver so it will be easier for your doctor to do your surgery. That's what the office woman at my doc's office said to me when she saw I lost weight since last time. Plus, you know what else is great? If you keep it off til surgery, you will be 5lbs closer to your goal!

Congrats and Keep it up!

Thanks Red! :) Wow... you are pre-band and lost over 65lbs! That is amazing. How did you do it? I was able to lose 50lbs once about 2 years ago but gained it all back. Kudos to you! :)

I'm on Atkins. I had my consultation for surgery at the end of July and I decided I wasn't going to wait around for 5 months and not try to lose weight. I did Atkins once before and lost 50lbs and of course I gained it back. I know that I feel great when I cut out all the sugar, processed flour, junk etc. Since I knew that I would be getting the band, any weight I could get off now would be less for me to lose with the band and I also wouldn't be gaining it back like I did the last time.

315 was my highest but I actually started around 305 in August so I've lost 55lb since then. I still have a ways to go and the band is going to help me do it and keep it off!

Hey all!

Started my pre-surgery diet 12/18 and believe me Christmas was murder - but I kept to task and I'm so proud of myself. I have lost about 7 pounds during this time. My surgery is January 2 - which is starting to freak me out because I have been so busy with Christmas and end of the month billing (work for my husband) that I just looked at the calendar and realized surgery is 4 DAYS AWAY! Holy macaroni!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
