Probably Overfilled, and Afraid to Let Some Out

Recommended Posts

I was banded 13 months ago, and was not very happy with my lack of progress in the losing area so, I purposely got overfilled. However, I have not been able to get anything besides liquids down for a month.

I have realized that I had not been working the band for it to be effective. First of all, I was banded in Nov and had my 1st fill in March, then did not have another until Nov. What I've noticed with the people who are progressing at a more rapid pace is that they are having frequent fills.

Anyway, although I am PBing if I try to eat anything (even Soup, and sometimes water), I am terrified of getting any of the Fluid taken out. I don't feel ill, or weak or anything, but in my heart of hearts I feel like this is probably wrong, and the weight is eventually coming off now.

What do you think?:cry

Get a slight unfill, losing weight is not worth getting sick over. As you know when you are slightly unfilled, if you follow the rules you should be able to lose weight and still enjoy your food. I am not very restricted at the moment but am working hard on keeping the weight I have lost off until my next fill so I know it's not easy. I came into this with the attitude that I would do it slowly while still enjoying a normal lifestyle... so far so good.

I had the same thing happen to me. I really though I wanted to lose weight at 3ccs. I couldn't hold down much solids and was surviving on Protein Shakes and soft foods. I was starting to feel like I really missed Protein so I had .5 taken out yesterday. Since then I was able to consume 7 oz of solid protein yesterday. I slept much better and feel so much better today. My suggestion is to get back on solids and count calories, 800-1k a day. Good luck.

My second fill i had was too tight, as was my third. My first will it took me almost a month to go ahead and go in and get the unfill. At first i was not sure if i was too tight, then i realized i was , my doc me go back on liquids to let my stomach heal and try it again . I knew after that i was too tight.

I had to go in for an unfill. I was worried i would not be tight enough . He took out half a cc and WOW what a difference it makes! i still had restriction and was eating small portions , I still lost weight. It is scarey but what is more scary is the thought of loosing the band from PBing all the time. The third fill was too tight, (I normally do not know im too tight until about the 3rd day after my fill ) i went in after a week and got half a cc taken out again .

This time my doc told me i am sensitive to fills and we are going ot have to go smaller fills from now on . which if fine for me. it sounds like you know your too tight. Throwing up all the time jeopardizes your band , its not healthy .

You will feel much better once you get an unfill

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
