:help:

It has been 7 days since my surgery. Every day I have been stuggling with major hunger issues due to the liquid diet. I was drinking something at least every 2 to 3 hours, yet I could not shake my growling stomach.

Last night I broke down and had 2 Tsp of Creamy Lite Peanutbutter. I could not help myself. I licked it slowly off the spoon. It made me feel full all night and I don't seem to have any bad symptoms. But I am still worried.

Does anyone know the effects of Peanutbutter during the liquid phase????

Peanut Butter is not a liquid. Therefore, your stomach, or pouch, has to move around to try and digest it. You are not yet healed from surgery, so think about what is going on down there. The band hasn't "settled in" yet. You need to stay on liquids so that the settling in can happen. Then afterwards, when it moves around during digestion, it's scarred into place.

I know the liquids are hard. You have to change your mindset. This time is for healing. Let the pouch heal.

I don't mean to be critical, I have been there. We all have. Just think about the reason for the liquids, in the long run it will help to prevents slips and erosions....It's weel worth another couple of weeks.

BTW, I did 3 weeks Optifast pre-banding, then 2 weeks Clear Liquids, and 2 weeks full liquids post-banding. SEVEN weeks of liquids...Looking back, yeah it was hard, but I am so grateful I stuck it out....

Good Luck!

I am going to get flamed for this - but I did it too and I am not a doctor but think you will be ok imho - I can't give you all the medical reasons why you aren't suppose to do this - but it's about healing -and stomach being stiched over band - I no longer keep Peanut Butter in my house - cuz it has too many calories and I still will go in and have a tablespoon every nite - so I threw it out and haven't bought anymore.

I was allowed fudgecicles & puddings on my liquid phase - (sugarfree of course) but they do help can you have these???

I was also allowed creamed Soups (strained) and make soupy mashed potatoes with skim milk - (really potato Soup from instant mashed potatoe) those where my life savers - I got sick of sweet Protein drinks.

Good luck - ....

Yuck to Peanut Butter. I craved it, ate some...it was one of the nastiest things to slime back up.

It's a 'plasma' in my book so not a liquid...and boy does it take some digesting to get broken down...I couldn't even get it to pass.

I would put some instant mashed potatoes in some chicken or beef broth to give it body and make me full.

I threw out an almost full jar of Peanut Butter pre-surgery and haven't bought any more. Too much of a temptation. I have had a little at my Mom's though, I have to admit.

I had two liquid stages, first week CLEAR and then second week "full" liquids. If you are still on clear then maybe trying "full"liquids will help. Are you getting enough Protein in? That can help you feel fuller longer.

P.S. Almost all of us got that rumbling, growling, gurgling stomach. I'm one month post op and sometimes still get that.

Thanks to all who responded to my Peanut Butter issue during the full liquid phase of the diet.

I was greatful to hear that others had done it, so I was not alone. And it was helpful to know why I should refrain and tough out the next 2 weeks.

I have tossed the PB jar in the garbage.

:clap2:

I'll admit it... I had a few licks of PB yesterday that I completely turned to liquid in my mouth before ingesting. I just had to taste it straight. Then I added it to my smoothie w/a full banana, 1/2 cup of 1% milk and 1/4 cup SF FF van. ice cream and I was in heaven and got in 13 grams of Protein.

At least that's one way to get some PB and not break the liquid rule...

HeatherA - HEY! How are you? I was starting to get worried about you since I didn't hear anything from you since your surgery. It sounds like everything went well. Would love to hear more if you want to send me a private message.

Congrats and hang in there. Keep in touch

Judy

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
