Protein question....

Recommended Posts

Is it better to get your Protein (I am on mushies and still doing the shakes) all at once, or spread out through the day.

Yesterday, I just was not hungry, so I drank my protein all at once and was completely satisfied with that.

Just wondering!!

Thanks so much for all the help!!

I'm pretty amazed that you could down that much all at once! (And you ARE talking 60 - 80 grams, aren't you?)

I really prefer to have a shake mid-morning (21 grams) and then one mid-evening (21 grams), just about the time I'm starting to get the hungries! Those Protein shakes satiate me so-o-o much that my hunger is immediately gone!

So by the time I get Protein in for Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, I'm usually way over my 80 grams.

Sorry I don't know the official answer as to whether it's okay to drink all your Protein Shakes at once...

I use this Protein called Isopure and its 50g per 2 scoop. Its not bad stuff and for what my doctor calls for around 60g it works out fine. I looked at the carnation instant stuff and other shakes but this had the most about of protein per serving and didn't taste bad. The package says mix with Water but i found that milk tasted better and if im feeling icky i throw a little fat free chocolate milk (only like 15 more cal) in the blender.

I asked my nutrionist and she said it doesn't matter if you get all your Protein at once, but to fight off hunger I would spread it out.

I also use Isopure powder and like it. In the morning I use 2 scoops with Water for 50 grams of Protein. Then I use 1 scoop of my chocolate Isopure at night blended with soy milk and ice for a "treat".

Most nutritionists will say that anything over about 25 grams of Protein intake at one time is not really well-metabolized by your body. It's just waste. So in order to get the best benefot from your Protein, spread it out.

Also, if you are making mega protein shakes, it is also believed that if you mix a Protein shake and refrigerate half for later, the protein is breaking down and again my not be as helpful for your body as it is when it is mixed fresh.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
