Hello, Is this lunch open to all. I have not made the call for the consult yet. But I would like to talk to banders before making the call. Also are there any benefit companys that pay for the surgery? I have Green Shield. Are there conditions to be met?

Hi Great North, I've been banded 5 months, and I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Just P.M. me, (private Message) you do it by CLICKING on my Name to the left.

I was a self pay, but am planning on using the medical expense on my tax return for 2007.

Hi Great North, yes people who are interested in the lapband are welcome to attend the luncheon. I know of hundreds of people who are banded and in Ontario I have never heard of any private medical plan covering the surgery at this time.

May I ask why you have revision surgery from the VBG band???

just curious:confused:

I had the revision after having had the VBG (stomach stapling) in 1987. I went from 260 down to 113 for several years but after the first 3 years the staple line began to disrupt. (It was very common for this to happen due to the old way that they stapled the stomach.) This resulted in starting to overeat again and after several more years I regained my weight.

Wow Donna, what a story. I have been feeling bad for myself as they suspect that I have a port leak.

But what you have been through is incredable. How did you keep yourself bouyed up between VGB failure and Lapbanding success?

I am having A fluro (Barium swallow) xray on Monday in Toronto, then I will know what I am dealing with. Havn't had any reasonable amt of restriction since fill#4 and I've had 7... tight for a couple of days and then nothing...(dribles out I quess)

Wow Peaches sorry to hear about your difficulties but I am sure they will get you fixed up once you've had your tests and they find out the problem. Believe me I felt like a failure after regaining all my weight after the VBG years out. God bless Dr. Cobourn for doing my revision and an excellent job I am so grateful to have had very smooth sailing since being banded. Wishing you all the best in a speedy resolution of your issues, keep us posted!

Hugs,

Hi all,

How often do you meet. I am recently banded (Dec 6, 2007) and would love the opportunity to meet other bandsters. Unfortunately I couldn't attent the lunch on the 20th.

There's a lunch somewhere near the GTA just about every month. There's one in Waterdown coming up as well and one in the Kitchener Waterloo area. I think the next GTA one will be in Ajax this time. They alternate between the west end and the east end. They area always posted on here. The Waterdown and Kitchener ones are only posted on Canadian Lapbanders yahoo group and on SWLC forum board.

I just wanted to add that the majority of my weight regain was during my pregnancy with my daughter while being on bedrest since 4 months pregnant. Then slowly went further up as a stay at home mom over the next few years. I hated having the regain but gaining a daughter (my one and only child) made regaining the fat worth it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
