Hi, everyone. I'm not yet banded, but I'm here to learn as much as I can before I make a final decision on whether I will go through with the surgery or not. I have only discussed it with my doctor today. I have not yet talked to even my husband about it, and if I do it, I'll only be telling him and my doctor. I'm one of those people who hold their weight really well, so I'm 230 lbs, but most people put me at about 175 when guessing my weight. That's why I don't want to tell anyone. They'd just judge/criticize anyway. So, my bmi is 38, and I have asthma, high cholesterol, and depression (medicated and completely under control). So, I've left a message to make an appointment for a consultation to begin this process. At this point, I'm pretty sure I want to do it, but I need more info to be 100% sure. So, that's the short story...

Happy Wednesday! :)Michelle (NoRegrets)

I'm with you, I completely understand. I was totally against this for years. I could not even understand why surgery. I'm like you too, I carry my weight well, I'm was 251 now 248 and no one ever guess my weight, they are always 50+ pounds. I didn't discuss with hubby until I was 200% sure of what I wanted. Since then I have done every test to ensure low risk with surgery. I decided on lap band due to research. Since all my test have returned good, I'm now considering RNY. I too have high cholestrol, sleep apena, high blood pressure, high insulin levels, PCOS, infertility due to weight and my BMI is 41.8.

the thing that scared me the most was death due to complication after WLS. Honestly!!! Most deaths were a result of heart disease, lung disease, bad stomach disorders and sever sleep apena. After all my test were good, I started thinking about RNY...I haven't totally decided that because yet today I was weighing the pro's and con's...the lap band is still in running.

i was 219 post-op and had the procedure done on the 19th of December and have lost 13 pounds to date. I suffered with diabetes, high cholestrol, sleep apnea and high blood pressure. I did not tell anyone until the day of my surgery when I was being driven to the hospital. I did not want anyone to talk me out of it or say "you are not that big". What's not that big?

Part of it to was the stigma associated with having a weight loss surgery. People believe you are taking the "easy" way out and if you exercise and watch what you eat you can lose the weight, however they fail to realize that you have tried all of those things numerous times and were not successful. For me this was the least invasive option and thus far, I am happy with my decision.

I'm right there with you...I've always felt I carried my weight well too, but now I'm beginning to think I'm the only one thinking that anymore.

I have successfully gained and lost more weight than my entire family combined. My highest weight (guy) has been 336. Running around 320 right now, was even down to 280 around June the last 2 years, but that is where I get to and everything comes to a halt.

I just started talking to my wife about the possibility of doing the procedure and scheduled for the seminar for next Wednesday. I know I can lose weight, but I should be around 190-200 lbs and I haven't been down that low in almost 10 years now. My blood work was decent, triglercerides were a little high, glucose was good, chol borderline high.

I'm just doing my homework like you and trying to decide what I want to do. Sometimes I just wish there was a pill I could eat everyday and it met all my daily nutrient needs. If I didn't get hungry, I would be just happy. I know I will still need to make some changes in diet, but atleast I love working out...I really want to do a triathalon or marathon.

I don't know...I'll see how the seminar goes.

Current:320:cursing: Goal:190:tt1:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
