How long (timewise) does it take to feel full?

Recommended Posts

How long does it take, once you can eat mushies, or even on full liquids, does it take most people to feel full?

You know without the band, it's approximately 15-20 minutes before you feel full and then it's too late, you are too stuffed.

Hi Holly! Welcome! I noticed you are pretty new to LBS. I love it. I have gotten so much information and support here. I'm sorry I can't answer your particular question, but wanted to respond. Are you banded yet? I'm finally set for Jan 10th! I'm so excited. Best of luck with your journey!

BTW, good luck on your surgery. I am excited to get it going tomorrow. Hopefully, we won't have too many problems. I'll keep up with you and let you know how it goes.

OH MY GOSH! Tomorrow morning! I'm so happy for you. Where do you live? I'm in Arizona. You might try posting your question on the over 50 thread. There is some great support on that thread. Let me know how you do! I'll remember you in my prayers. Carol

Congrats! It's the best thing ever! In my lapband pre-class they said it still takes 20 minutes for your brain to get the message that you are full. I have been banded for 2 weeks & I haven't been hungry once...even when I haven't eaten for a few hours at a time...YEY!

Anyalee! Thank you for sharing! You give us all hope and help us know we've made the right decision. Best of luck in your journey.

Holly! I forgot to mention under Lap Band Support, there are support groups for the month you're having surgery too. Also helpful.

Thanks guys!

Carol

I am on mushies. I ate mashed potatoes yesterday for lunch I had about 1/2 cup when I was stuffed. About 10-15 minutes. The thing is I eat a lot slower cause I am worried about anything comming back up. You want to do everything in your power not to throw up the first 6 weeks (according to my dr) So I eat a lot slower. It was hard for me to stop eatting the potatoes because they tasted good. But I had to remind myself to stop and I can have them later if I wanted.

Personaly I have issues about not getting the food if I stop at some point. If I dont eat it now I am not going to get it again. comes from childhood I think.

I hope that answers your question. Good luckk and a positive outlook helped me recover super quick.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
