Hi everyone...this is my first time here...I had my lap band surgery on 9/12/07 and I either picked a wrong doctor or am not doing something right. I did not get good discharge instructions first of all and it has been nothing but trouble getting in touch with my surgeon after the procedure. I am so disappointed...I spent ALOT of money to do this....I have only had one fill and i have lost my job of 10 years and insurance since then....I lost more weight before my surgery(30#) than after...I lost in the beginning and then regained some back. Any suggestions as to what to do....I'm starting to get really down about this, not to mention my husband keeps asking what happened....he wasn't for me getting this done and I just keep hearing about how much money we've lost......:help:

My wife was banded the same day as you were. Sorry to here about the loss in the job. I hope that you still have insurance. Have you had a 2nd fill yet? We are going in Janaury and should have fill # 3. The one thing that are doctor says we need to do more of is excerise. He says that will help the most. One thing that I have notice so far that a lot of people talk about is the fact that they get a fill and then within a week or two they ready for another fill. This is going to be one of my questions next week when we go for a check up. I do not understand how the body works as it relates to physics. If you have any questions or need someone to chat just e-mail me. I understand about being out of work. 5 years ago I was out for a year looking for work.

Chris

BABYDOLL:

It is not unusual to lose weight slowly after the band and many people lose more weight on the pre-op diet.

Right now the band is most likely not fully restricting you yet and most people need several fills to get to the right place.

Please take the time to read through as many of the threads on the forum to better understand the process ahead of you.

Education about the band is the key to success.

I'm sorry about losing your job. You are facing several difficult challenges right now, with learning to handle the band and losing your job, so if you feel a little down right now, that too is normal. Things will get bettter.

Thanks for everyones support. When I got off here I started researching some things and I am starting to feel better. I know I definitely need to pick up alot more excercise since I am at home with the kids. Chris 61 -I lost my insurance and COBRA was something we just can't do at the moment, my husband was out of work after being hopsitalized and barely started his job and his benefits won't start until after his 90 days. I haven't had a second fill and I was reading that it takes a few...alot of these things were never explained to me. Thanks Shortgal...I did alot of reading, found out alot. Like I said I feel a little bit better. Do I have to stay with the same surgeon or can I switch ?? I have soooo many questions and that Dr. is toooo busy to deal with them, they never get back to you...anyways...thanks again everyone!

Hi Chris,

My husband and I were banded the same day (10.12.07), and as I was reading your post, my husband came to mind. We had our third fill on Wed and he made the comment that if our Surgeon was not as aggressive as some others he would be annoyed/miserable.

It was explained to us this way: So long as we are losing / eating right / and exercising he will fill us every 2-4 wks (depending on how we feel). Husband thinks he's at a good place w/this fill - me I might need another, which is scheduled for Jan 23. I'd talk to your Dr. see if he will bump up your fill schedule...He just might:)

Good Luck,

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
