Hello!! Newbie from DC area!

Hello all! I am SO happy I found this site! I live in MD and I am scheduled to have my lap banding at the end of January. I am in complete disbelief that this is happening! I am just not picturing it, and things are rolling right along so the reality hasn't really had time to hit me. I am inviting any and all words of wisdom and support, as well as advice on foods and dealing with any discomforts post-op. I look forward to talking with you all!

Hi, Melissa. I live in Southern Maryland and I had my surgery in DC. Who is your surgeon? My surgeon is Dr. Brody at George Washington University Hospital. I must say...I absolutely LOVE my band. It has worked very well for me and I feel like I have worked very well with it too. The moment that I got the phone call that my surgery was approved by insurance, I completely changed my way of living and eating. I make much better decisions about food and I have picked up a few exercises that I actually enjoy (one is Water aerobics). The biggest thing to remember with the band is that you didn't gain the weight overnight so you shouldn't expect to lose it overnight, either. It is a long process and it takes a lot of work. The band is no miracle but if you do things the way that you are suppose to and make good decisions, you will succeed.

I'm so happy for you. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask...I'll do my best to answer any questions that you have. Good luck to you!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
