Hello! I am 4 weeks post-op, and I am curious about what type of supplements people take - such as Fiber, Calcium, or any others you want to share. Thank you!

Now, a year and a half out, I take a bariatric Multi-Vitamin, turmeric, Calcium (with vit D3 and K) and Omega 3 (as I don't eat fish) daily. I also take a serving of collagen powder most days, added to my coffee.

I don't think I will bother continuing with the turmeric when the current supply runs out as I can't say I have seen any benefit to it.

A high dose Multivitamin and a nasty Calcium tablet every day. Then 2 PPI's to keep the acid at bay. Then every three months I have a B12 injection. I might be able to get rid of some of these this year as I believe I have a very good balanced diet now

Yeah I have to do a B12 injection every two months also, forgot about that as I have had to do that for more than 10 years now.

Gastric bypass patients should be taking at a minimum a bariatric Multivitamin, as well as 1200-1500 mg of Calcium per day. Vitamin D3 is also recommended, but most people get enough with just the above because typically both bariatric Multivitamins and calcium supplements already contain additional D3. Some people also need B12 supplementation, however since I eat a lot of dairy, I've never had a problem with my B12 being low.

Keep in mind that due to the surgery, we don't absorb nutrients like the did before. This is why we need to take these supplements for life. It's critical to have routine blood work and adjust what you take due to the results. For example, I had to change from a "normal" bariatric multivitamin so one with reduced B12 because my B12 was actually too high.

In addition to the above, I also take Probiotics and Fiber pills daily.
