Surgery on 12/3 and miserable!

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new here and having problems! I had the surgery on Dec. 3 and I'm still miserable. My weight is going down, but I'm in almost constant pain and discomfort. It feels like I have "bubbles' in my lungs and I am struggling to get a night's sleep. Any body else having these pain problems?

Have you called your Dr? Did you have any post op offive visits yet, where you can ask these questions? I suggest you call the DR.

At three weeks out constant pain and not sleeping doesn't seem right.

I've talked to Dr.'s office multiple times. I think I have reflux going on REALLY badly and don't know what to do about it. My GP put me on Nexium and I'm trying to eat Protein every 2 to 3 hours, but none of this seems to be working.

Protein will not help with reflux. It works for a lot of things, this is just not one of them!

Try elevating the head of your bed, or sleeping on a wedge type of pillow. sleep on your sides, not your back. Avoid drinking or eating for 2 or more hours before bed, not having food or liquid in your pouch will help a lot! I wait until I can drink after dinner, then try to drink a full glass of Water, then nothing, just let is wash my pouch out as much as possible.

Try taking your Nexium at a later time in the day, on an empty stomach was one of my Dr.'s suggestions, you might ask your Dr, about it!

Try a few days without dairy, and see if that could be an issue. If not, add it back in, and eliminate something else--see if you can pinpoint something causing the problems.

Protein every 2-3 hours----what kind of Protein? If your stomach is irritated already, and you are eating a difficult to digest type of protein, you might just be keeping it tore up. ***I am NOT a Dr. nor a medical professional---this is simply my opinion*** I would try to eat healthy, but at the same time take a few days and baby your stomach. Maybe get your protein from clear Liquid Protein drinks--something that the stomach does not have to work so hard with. Then I would eat easily digested foods, cooked veggies etc. Let my body take it easy for a few days. Then slowly try to figure out it a certain food or food group might be an issue with you.

I mentioned dairy, because my Mom is lactose intollerant, and she says she feels bubbly when she inadvertantly eats something with dairy.

Good Luck!!!!

Kat

Have you actually gone to see your doctor? I recommend that you do. Sometimes we don't describe the problem well enough for the doctor to be able to help us.

Please go to the doctor if you haven't already.

Best wishes for a quick recovery.

Sue

Have you tried going back to liquids for a couple days to let things calm down? Maybe eating every two to three hours is just too much.

Reflux pills like Nexium etc can actually take a day or two to start working, they are not quick like tums etc.

Is it possible that you may be overeating? I get that nasty feeling if I overdo. Be very sure you are measuring your food and chew chew chew. Try to not eat after 7 at night and maybe this will work for you. It might be good to visit with our dr when you are having the bubbly feeling so he can check you out.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
