JayJay 0 Posted December 26, 2007 Hi all, Dec. 27th is my date for banding and I was looking at my prescriptions that the doctor had me fill. I noticed that they are all chewable or disolve on my tongue. However, my pain pill is a HORSE PILL!! My question is, isn't that strange? Am I supposed to disolve it in Water and then take it? Im thinking the taste is going to be HORRID and I sure wont be able to drink lots of water. I will try and reach the doctor tomorrow morning, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue come up. Thanks! J

Cindees 0 Posted December 26, 2007 I was banded one month ago. I was advised to use a pill splitter or crusher when I had to take a large pill. Good luck with your surgery, it was the sest thing I had done for myself in a long time.:whoo:
kaohinani 0 Posted December 26, 2007 same here for me, my pain medications were liquid, you should ask your surgeon. Good Luck, see you after the banding.
Jazzywoman 0 Posted December 26, 2007 My pain med is liquid, however the anti-nausea drug is a pill. I probably won't need the pill. Maybe the pharmicist made a mistake? Surely, you won't be able to get a horse pill through your tummy band.. ick!
hajohnson1 0 Posted December 26, 2007 My pain meds were pills, but they were small. Ask your doc, there might have been a mistake at the pharmacy. The good news is, I stopped taking mine the day after I got home from the hospital (I was only in overnight) - so even if you have to crush them it might not be for long. steph_co 9 Posted December 26, 2007 Ummm...I took whole Vicodin the moment I became conscious enough to do so when I woke up from surgery. It hurt that first time, but they had just finished messing with my stomach not an hour before that! As for after getting home....I took whole Vicodin - no issues whatsoever. No pain, no stuck feeling. Certainly - ask your doctor...but I don't see an issue with it like other people are making it out to be.

SuzanneG 1 Posted December 26, 2007 Be careful cutting or crushing pills. Many pills are time release and shouldn't be crushed. If they have a score on them, that means they can be cut in half, if its not there, then they don't intend for you to cut them. I'm scheduled for surgery Jan 4th and I'm pretty nervous. I went and bought liquid Vitamins and liquid Tylenol in case I want something for pain when I get home. Also, I ordered the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury protien powder, it's pretty good. They make one that is chicken Soup flavor so I don't have to have only sweets. I'm on a liquid, liver shrinking, diet for 2 weeks and it's been hard. I'm looking forward to getting to the other side. Good luck to you!
Candle 11 Posted December 26, 2007 My doc is VERY experienced and the band is all he does now. I was given pills too. Vicodin. I ended up never needed anything but Tylenol once I left the hospital. If you are really worried about it, you could ask for something liquid but I don't think pills should be a problem.
QuasiTova 0 Posted December 26, 2007 M Dr gave me liquid vicodin... and a rub on promethazine (Phenergan) for nausea... but my best friend after surgery (for three days) was Liquid Tylenol PM... because all I wanted to do was sleep. Walgreens sells Liquid Tylenol PM in a yummy vanilla flavor.
