Did losing weight make you look older?

Recommended Posts

I saw someone who I had not seen in a year. She lost a lot of weight and looked several years older. The wrinkles in her face were more prominent. I was wondering if it is common to "age" as the pounds come off.

I can't speak for myself because I've only lost a small part of what I have to loose . . .but from all the before/after pictures I've seen . . . EVERYONE looks YOUNGER to me! She might not be taking care of herself . . . taking her Vitamins . . . exercising . . . eating the right things . . . be stressed with things in her life . . . but most people look way younger to me ~ Chris

My MIL recently lost at lot of weight I think it has aged her by about 10 years!! I do think she has maybe lost too much as she has started looking like a wrinkled ballon thats had all its air taken out.

I think having wrinkles after significant weight loss is inevitable for most of us. We associate wrinkles with age. It'd make sense that those who lose significant amounts of weight would appear older based on having more wrinkles.

I think I look a bit older than I did fat but my friends tell me they disagree. I think they are being friends, to be honest.

When you are fat your wrinkles are filled out a bit. Losing weight doesn't cause wrinkles in your face but those that were hidden by fat... well, they are no longer hidden anymore. They are just there.

Besides my new "turkey neck" (my kids have a much less flattering name for it :omg:), people have commented that I look younger. My skin is much better now, and I'll deal with the waddle neck if it gets too gross!

I think it depends on your skin type.....some people are lucky and they have good elasticity in their skin, and some unfortunately look like a deflated old balloon but the upside is that the big smile on their faces make them look like laughter lines and not wrinkles!!!!

Being fat pushes out the wrinkles. I'm always being told I look 5-8 years younger than I am and my Mum and oldest sister don't look their ages either. It'll be interesting to see what happens after I get banded and lose the excess fat - I might start getting told I look 5-8 years older. I'll be lining up for botox then.

Also, I have oily skin and from other people I know, if you have oily skin, you get less wrinkles. On the other hand, my sister who's been banded has quite dry skin and she looks older than our oldest sister so it's defiantely down to your skin tone and the amount of oil you produce.

I see my wrinkles more, but you'll have that. I don't look older, I just don't look like I'm 20, like I looked when I was this weight last time.

I am older.

However I look younger and act younger and feel younger 100+ pounds lighter. The difference in me from age 38 to 39 is amazing. I'll take a few wrinkles any day.

Yep; I think I look a bit older. The nurse at my doctor's office said we will look older for about the first 2 years and then it will catch up with itself. My twin sister has quite a few wrinkles and I always teased her about me not having any - only because they were full of fat :)

Oh well - bring on the wrinkles - it's better than being fat any day!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
