Day 11 after surgery

Recommended Posts

I need some reassurance---- is it possible to be too fine?

I had RNY on Dec 16. The first few days I wasn't able to. get much down but since day 4 I have no issue sipping.
I am meeting my liquid goals ( 64 oz) Protein goals ( 60oz) and walking 5k+ steps a day.

I am so sick of Soup and really want to move to pureee but I know I can't. Any suggestions on things to do in the mean time?

How many carbs or fat should I be getting right now? How many calories is thee limit for these next few days?

Is day 11-14 the hardest?

You’re doing fine!

I am 142 days post op.

I was able to walk short distances on day 4-5(about 2 mile).

Around day 15, I could walk 7-10k steps daily pretty easily. There was a bit of pain like a stomach cramp but it wasn’t too much just an uncomfortable lump in the stomach while I walked hard or fast.

As for the Soup thing, I know this isn’t good advice but this is what I did to stay a bit sane. I used to put a small piece of something in my mouth would chew and then spit it out. To get my tastebuds out of their torture.

You could try fat free Greek yogurt to alternate between your soup flavors. 1 cup of yogurt, mix with Water and salt to taste and enjoy your sour yogurt.

As for the carb and fat thing you’re still in the recovery phase so don’t really worry about that. Once you reach day 30 and can eat normally, the goal would be to eat a similar ratio of carbs and Protein daily. Example: 100g of protein and 100g of carbs. Don’t be afraid of carbs and fats though! They fuel the body and help the organs work! You need them to have energy to do stuff!

Thank you so much for writing me back. I am glad to know I am doing ok. I will try the greek yogurt liquid if I can get to the store. And that's a helpful meeasurement ( protei+ carb). for future.

I will try not to stress.

You are doing super great. The main thing you need to do is follow your teams advice. Every single person on this site had a different regime. In the end if you have followed the advice, you win and you seem to be doing that.

The early foods do get repetative but stick in there. You have a huge cut and stitch line on your tummy and just because we can't see it, people forget it. sugar free popsickles and milk with added sugar free flavours got me through.

100% Agree.

Reading through posts here, you'll see just how different the diets are for various surgical centers. It's not like some are "wrong" and some "right", it's that the surgical team may or may not be doing certain things because they've seen over time what tends to work best for their specific patients.

Once thing I will add here is that if your team did not recommend a specific amount of carbs & fat or a specific number of calories, then please don't worry about those components right now. You have plenty of other things to focus on as you retrain yourself how to eat. Worrying about even more is not really beneficial at this point.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
