I was banded Dec 21st. I do not have stitches and my surgeon did not restrict any of my activities--just wondering, how soon after the bandings were you guys able to take a bath? I have showered till my heart content but I really just want a nice long soak in the tub with bubbles.

I was told no bath until 3 weeks after surgery. It is not good to soak while the sites are healing......I would check with you DR they should of given you these instructions when you left the hospital.

Infection can happen if tub bath taken to soon!

My left side is where the placed the port. It does not hurt hurt. It just tugs sometimes or twinges momentarily. I can def. tell something is there and things inside are different. I haven't taken any pain meds for 2 days though if that helps to answers the pain question.

The pain should subside within a week to 10 days. But I still have pain with my port off and on and I am 6 weeks out. When I workout or am on my feet for a long time it pulls.

Remember that the port was secured to your muscle this takes a long time to heal into place and as you begin losing the weight change can also pull on it.

It is nothing that some liquid tylenol or a heating pad does not help though.

Hope this helps and keep your head up you will feel better soon.

I am in Illinois the middle of the state. It is always helpful to speak to people who have walked the road before you I agree!! I follow the program to the letter. I don't drink with my meals and I stop 30 minutes before a meal and I wait 30 minutes after a meal before I drink. I think this is crucial to letting the food stay in my pouch the longest, helps with hunger.

Also eating lots of Protein also helps me with hunger. I always eat my Protein first then vegtable and if any room, some fruit. I have two Protein shakes a day one in midmorning and one in mid afternoon. I am not hungry and have not had a fill.

I work out 4 times a week at a local gym that I joined in late August. I believe you have to excersize for the band to work its magic. I think it is key to the whole process.

The band is a tool we must contribute our part on the success or unsuccess of how it helps us. I am so thankful I have had this surgery and I look forward to continued progression with my new best friend.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have I would be happy to help if I can.

Good Luck in the Banding journey and your consult with your Dr. on the 19th.

Kristen thank you so much for sharing, your words were so encouraging and inspiring, considering I am so new at this. I would now like to ask how soon did you start exercising? I also would like to know when do you eat your foods and when do you drink your Protein Drinks. I want to do the right thing, for more reasons that one one I self payed and 2 my life depends on it. Thanks again for sharing.

Holy crap! My port site hurt so bad for 10 days. Then I acidentally twisted the wrong way and it REALLY hurt for 2 more days. Now (15 days out) I feel just fine and only feel the port when I'm bending over to pick something up off the ground. Don't worry the pain passes eventually! YEY!

I'm from Houston too. Who was your doctor? Do you know of any support groups in the Houston area? I live in Clear Lake.

I just had my surgery yesterday outside of Vancouver BC Canada...the hospital advised me no bath for three days.

Three weeks would be horrible!

HTH :)

I would be extremely carefull about baths. I was told with my post-op instructions no baths for 1 month. This is because of the risk of infection. If you do decide to risk it before, please make sure your tub is extremely clean and disinfected. I heal very quickly and waited until 3 weeks post before soaking in a tub.

Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
