January 2025 Surgery Buddies!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I’m new to this forum! I am currently on the milk only diet as my op is in 12 days. Does anyone have any advice or know of any groups in Watford area for support? I’ve been waiting in nhs for this op for 7 years and am now a nervous wreck that it is finally happening.

How are you doing??

I am doing well thank you! On purees now, which is great after weeks of liquid, feeling good, learning my limits and healing nicely!

I have not lost a lot of weight for a week, but am taking that in my stride, desperately close to.my first mini goal, but not quite there yet!

Overall going very well, I can see the differences already, clothes are starting to hang off me! 😁

Thanks for asking, how are you doing?

Is it a gastric bypass you’ve had? What was your pre-op diet?

If you were asking me, I had a gastric sleeve. 😊

I had roux en y bypass on the 22nd. My pre-op diet was:

Cream of Wheat and a Protein Shake for Breakfast, snack a sugar free Jello or pudding, lunch was broth and a low-fat Greek yogurt and dinner was low-fat cream of Chx or Tomato Soup with cottage cheese. I had one to two more shakes as Snacks or more Jello or sugar free popsicles. Also at least 64oz of water!

Thanks for sharing! My bypass was yesterday and I go home later today. I feel much better than I thought I would at this early stage of recovery. I remember what it was like trying to get all of that Water down -- it's good practice for post-surgery as you have to work back up to that level too. Best wishes on your recovery!

That’s for sure! It’s really stressful for my husband, he’s the sensible one in the family but he’s not there with his dad and brothers to make sure everything is being done appropriately.

I lived almost 500 miles from my parents, so when either needed help it was a challenge to get it for them.

All went well yesterday with my bypass. I came home today. I like my own bed 🛏️ much better than the hospital's!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
