I have the weird post-covid effect of yogurt (all yogurts!) tasting metallic. So cottage cheese has replaced it for me. I eat mine with a handful of blueberries and a sprinkle of chopped walnuts.

So not a helpful comment here, but I was also stunned at how much cottage cheese is mentioned/used in the bariatric community!

Pre-surgery I was like..."I am going to try it", and I had looked up and saved so many different recipes using it - truth is, I still haven't tried it ๐Ÿคฃ

I've been eating it on it's own since it's good puree - soft food texture so it works both ways. Also added it to a Tomato Soup to give texture and Protein. I used to like it all the time when I was in the US, but since moving over to the UK, I didn't like it because the texture was different. Now, I can keep it down and it's a good protein so I eat it all the time.

But, my local supermarket sells it mixed with pineapple, or one with Italian Herbs. I wouldn't eat either of those, but it might be a good suggestion for someone.

I would never had had it pre-op as hate all cheeses but decided to try it a few months ago after seeing so many posts about it.

I made banana bread using cottage cheese and it was lovely, I also made a chocolate pudding using it which was tasty.

You've heard "cottage cheese" a lot, for me its been "Greek yogurt"! Between the dieticians and this forum I'm up to my eyeballs in hearing it! Every single time I spoke with the dieticians they mentioned it..you'd think they owned stock in Fage! I only use it as a replacement for sour cream since it tastes like sour cream and not yogurt to me since it has that sour cream bitter sour taste.

I do like the pineapple " cottage cheese" although I keep it to a minimum... what with pineapple having lots of sugars!

mark me down as a cottage cheese lover. always have been.

i like to eat it plain, with all kinds of fruit, and/or granola, nuts, seeds, honey.

.... i also like it savoury: with black pepper, and/or cayenne, garlic/onion powder, more cheese, cured meats, bacon, anchovies, grilled veggies, balsamic vinegar....ha! (yes, you read that right: anchovies, lol!)

i've also used it to substitute some/most of the cream cheese in cheesecakes quite successfully. lowers the calorie level and denseness of the result (but if you like new york style cheesecakes, doesn't really work...)

anyway, i could go on and for my cottage cheese love (which i probably already did, ha!)...

Cottage Cheese Forever!

Same! I love cottage cheese and have been eating it since I was a kid. Growing up cottage cheese and canned pears were my jam! Since surgery, I have eaten a lot of cottage cheese. I mostly eat it by itself as a snack. I haven't eaten a lot of fruit yet but will sometimes eat some frozen blueberries with it.

I don't really cook with it so I cant really help with that. I don't love plain Greek yogurt so I would rather put cottage cheese in anything that calls for that.

I hated cottage cheese before and was so grossed out by it. Now I love blending it with eggs to make a high Protein omelette. I also add it to a bunch of sauces. Still trying to explore new recipes.

Iโ€™m with you @Arabesque I think itโ€™s awful too. Texture, visual and taste. Itโ€™s odd that it tastes too salty to me, though because I usually like more salt than most people and so many people like it.

I will say that not all brands are created equal! I usually love Target brand things but there cottage cheese is way to tangy. If you give it another shot, buy the name brand ones, they are usually better. Though Kroger brand is pretty good.

True! Brand does make a difference. Very UK specific, but I love the one that Iceland sells, but Tesco own brand is just meh.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
