Mrs. Love_84 0 Posted November 2, 2024 Hi I'm currently three days into my liquid diet I've been googling about things I can have so my question is Egg Drop Soup would it be ok to have I figured I could get an accurate answer from someone who's been through this process before
Arabesque 7,414 Posted November 2, 2024 (edited) You will need to strain it extremely well: no little bits of egg, tofu, scallions or anything which may be added. Straining through muslin may be best to ensure you get everything especially those wispy bits of egg. You can also strain pho, wonton Soup, etc. They won’t have as much Protein as Bone Broth if you were looking for an alternative to only drinking the shakes so don’t make it your main source if protein & nutrition during this stage. You’ll be able to eat it (without the tofu or scallions) in the purée stage. But always check with your team. There can be differences in plans. PS - congrats on your surgery! BabySpoons 617 Posted November 2, 2024 Egg Drop was my first take out item post-op but I waited till soft food stage to eat it. My program didn't have a puree phase. I did cheat a bit by using a Vitamix and totally liquifying some Soups. But as @Arabesque said, wait until your Bariatric team OKs you for the puree stage then either strain or liquefy. I was also concerned about the amount of fat added to Egg Drop from my local Chinese restaurant but it didn't seem to effect me. It tasted wonderful! You can also make your own using some chicken bouillon or broth and dropping an egg into it. GL and congrats on your surgery! 1 summerseeker reacted to this
Mrs. Love_84 0 Posted November 2, 2024 Ok will do thanks for replying
Spinoza 1,452 Posted November 2, 2024 Are you pre or post op?? This is the pre op section so I'm a bit confused (nothing different there). If you're post surgery then definitely follow the advice above. If not, then perhaps just check with your team whether it's appropriate this close to your surgery. ShoppGirl 5,004 Posted November 3, 2024 (edited) I would probably hold off a bit. I mean if you strain everything out I guess it would still have a bit of the flavor but I don’t remember the broth being super flavorful. I confess it’s not a fave though so it’s been a while. I found a Soup at Walmart that had a pretty flavorful broth. It was their Marketside brand chicken tortilla. It’s over near the deli where they have the Panera Soups. Of course you need to strain with a very fine strainer. Their Tomato bisque wasn’t bad either for purée stage. It’s pretty high in fat though. Not sure if that’s true of all tomato soups. You can just search deli soup or panara soup and see the options and view the nutrition labels. I spent a lot of time viewing labels and adding stuff to my cart that I could have on puree and added to my saved for later for the soft food stage while I was just laid up in bed. I bought WAY too much food but when I got to soft food I cooked every night and I froze a ton of food so it was nice when I started to exercise because when I get home late from a class I had stuff I pulled out of the freezer and put in fridge the night before. Now I intentionally Cook double batches of stuff so I don’t have to cook as often but I always have home cooked nutritious food.
