Hurricane Milton

Just a quick post to say that I hope all the US forum members, their families & friends who are having to deal with the hurricane emergency in Florida and the surrounding areas have managed to evacuate and have found somewhere safe to wait it out

If anyone knows of any registered charities or organisations that can be donated to, could you please post that information?

Check out the Red Cross. They are pretty widely known organization that provides help for all kinds of disasters. This is from their website.

The Red Cross is proud that an average of 90 cents of every dollar we spend is invested in delivering care and comfort to those in need. Each year, the generous support of donors like you enables our disaster workforce— 90% volunteers—to help millions of people in the U.S.

i don’t love that it’s 90% of what they SPEND and not what they GET on donations (seems like it could be misleading) but maybe that’s just semantics?? I know it has been around for a long time and when I Googled it quickly, it seems to have pretty good scores on sites of people that review different charities but check it out for yourself.

Thanks @ShoppGirl for the info. 90% of what they spend?? Mmm…seems tricksy wording doesn’t it? I agree, it should be 90% of what they get shouldn’t it? It’s the same here - bigger charities seem to give less to those who need it as they pay the big bucks to various directors, advertisers, managers etc. There’s been a lot of criticism over charities in the UK. I donate things to a local hospice charity shop here as I know it all goes to the hospice. I will have a nosey about and see if I can find any smaller, local organisations, but thank you for finding the info for me 🙂

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
