How long did it usually take you guys to get your results? It's only been 3 days and I'm already nervous as heck. I was going to wait at least a week before calling the bariatric clinic to see if they have my results yet but... yeah... nervous.

It’s takes a little while. They have to transcribe everything and make it all official so it can go to the insurance. Some doctors don’t have anyone on staff to do that and they have to send it out so to speak. Mine was over a week.

Do you have another appointment at the clinic, dietician... Doctor...? If so, you have your answer. Fairly certain if you've had your evaluation and they didn't tell you there were questions or wanted to schedule another psych evaluation you're good.

I never received "results"... the hoops just continued..

That’s true. They may not call just to tell you. The only reason I asked about it was becausr they didn’t think I needed to do it for a revision at first but it turned out that I needed it and I already had surgery scheduled so i had to get it to them quickly so I followed up to make sure the Psyc’s office sent it.

I do have another appointment on the 30th with bariatrics. Im seeing the nurse and nurse practitioner and Im seeing the nutritionist right afterwards. It's supposed to be the last appointment before my surgery and then I have to see my surgeon once a year after that and the nutritionist/physical therapist once every few months I believe?

I hope I don't have to wait until the 30th for my results. I had my appointment last Wednesday so I'll try calling them Wednesday afternoon and see if they have an update for me or an approximation of when the results will be in.

I'm confused as to what "results" you're expecting? If you've had your psychological evaluation appointment and they've not called you to tell you that they need to postpone or cancel your appointments OR schedule more psychological sessions before you can progress afterwards you basically have your results - you're still in the program and are still going through the insurance required hoops. Am I missing something, or reading your question incorrectly?

I'm fairly certain at the time of your evaluation the psychologist/ counselor would have told you that you weren't ready for the surgery or you couldn't move on to the next step! Everyone I know who couldn't go to the next steps was told they'd require a "few more therapy sessions" before they could have the surgery at the time of their original session. I wouldn't worry about your "results" but, if you are call them and ask!

I agree. I never got any results as such from my psych eval, it was a step on the way to the surgery.

You could always ring to reconfirm your appointments for later this month and as a by the by ask if the psych step is now complete, that might put your mind at ease.

Yea, maybe just ask if they got your clearance yet instead of asking Did I pass?

What is Wednesday? Your follow up appointment?? If you have an appointment Wednesday and you can stand waiting you could call earlier, but you really should find out about it at your appointment If not you can just say “you got my psyc clearance, right??” And see what they say. Just make it about your concern they didn’t send the paperwork and not your concern that you didn’t pass. Honestly I think you did though. I can’t imagine that a psychiatrist would leave the surgeon to be the one to break the news to you that you didn’t pass this time. They know that they are better qualified to help you get through it if it is upsetting to you and it would be for many of us, once we make up our minds to do this we want it now. But you already know that if you didn’t pass YET, that it is just a delay. Try to focus on that for now. It may be one more hurdle but you are still on your journey to get your surgery.

No my followup is on the 30th. Wednesday is just a week after I had my psych eval. I called the bariatric clinic Monday they said it takes at least a week for the results and to call back Wednesday and they should have the results then. So tomorrow hopefully I should know how the appointment went.

Oh good. I really do think you will be fine but if not don’t let it get you discouraged, Just do what they ask you to do and you will get there soon enough. One step at a time.

So I called this afternoon and they got the results back apparently she didn't find anything too concerning and they're not delaying the surgery. I will know more on my followup on the 30th when the nurse goes over it with me but for now I'm being told that everything she found was totally normal and not concerning. I'm guessing that she just addressed concerns that I didn't know enough about the surgery and that they should go over everything again. I'm assuming. I'll know more in 3 weeks. But I feel so much better now because I was worried that they'd delay my surgery. Now let's hope it doesn't snow in upstate ny in November this year lol

I’m not sure about the snow but I’m glad your surgery is still scheduled. I think you’re probably right about then just making sure that you understand the surgery. Hopefully they will give you some written stuff about the post op diet and all of those instructions when you get to that part so if you forget you can go back and read it over again. I read mine a couple of times before my last appointment so I could ask all of my questions.

Yeah nobody can control the snow except God. I'm not worried about the snow. It usually does snow in early November here in upstate NY but lately over the past 3 years or so it hasn't started snowing until Janurary. Hoping this year is another repeat of that. Time will tell.

They gave me a whole booklet that my surgeon gave to me when he explained the various different surgeries to me and a bunch of other people about 7-8 months ago. It has everything that I need to know in it like what I'm supposed to be doing 2 weeks before my surgery 2 weeks afterwards ... everything. I just haven't had much time to give it a good going over its been a busy 7-8 months. They always ask me at the end of my appointments if I have any questions and I think I have some for my surgeon that I'll probably be asking him the day of my surgery so if I have any I can always ask. Most of my questions are medical questions though that I think only my surgeon can answer because I'm curious how my mental illness is going to affect my surgery and my weight loss journey after my surgery. It's definitely going to be more of a struggle than usual. Do all of your hunger pains and cravings usually go away with the surgery? Or do you still have to worry about the urge to eat?

For me the physical hunger is completely gone now. With my sleeve it was also gone but it did come back. It was around 6 months that it started coming back if I’m remembering correctly. It comes back for most people to varying degrees of intensity. The best case is that you take that time to really change WHAT you eat, not just how much because when the hunger comes back you will likely eat larger portions and if it’s less healthy food you will probably begin to gain. At least I did. With my revision I have changed what I eat entirely. I didn’t do this with my sleeve. I had just a few menu options so it’s no wonder I got board with it and started to eat off plan more often. This time I did research and found several healthy recipes to try and I found quite a few that I enjoy so I don’t get board at all. You may not recall but I have Bipolar and Anxiety. I have found that freezing some healthy meals has come in real handy at times when I am not up to cooking. I also am in touch with my surgical team more often for office visits as well as the support group meetings and those help tremendously.

Post op I also had more frequent appointment with my psychiatrist and psychologist as well. I just asked for all of the support I could find because it is a lot of change which I don’t do well with but now that I am two months out and i have a little routine I am feeling better than ever. The exercise that I am finally energized enough to do has helped my mood tremendously and the weight loss and the social aspect of the group fitness classes have helped with my self esteem too. I have so much more structure and routine now which is actually really great for Bipolar. I am able to fall asleep at night and stay asleep and I wake up at the same time and exercise, I set recurring alarms for vitamins/food and I log my food with the Baritastic app and my fitness watch keeps track of all of my activity. I show all of that data to my NP at my checkups and she helps me make adjustments to my nutrition. You will probably see a nutritionist for food related questions but I had a newer surgery called the SADI and the nutritionist wasn’t very helpful with regard to the macros after I got back to normal food. As long as you are managing your mental illness, though, you should be just fine. Just don’t hesitate to ask for whatever help that you need in order to be successful.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
